For the past 8+ years I've suffered from severe night sweats, with little to no relief. Living in a hot climate, it's often difficult to keep the house below 73 (even in the winter). My night sweats are caused by a chronic condition, in combination with necessary medication. On average, I wake up to change my shirt 5 or 6 times per night (sometimes I have to change all of my clothes). My sheets are often saturated, as is my pillow. Basically... sleeping is a huge workout for me. The lack of sleep affects my mood, my condition and my quality of life. I was given the Sweet Relief pillow inserts as a gift from my mom, who knows how much the situation has affected me. She saw them on the Dr. Oz show, where he recommended them. I didn't figure they'd work, since I've tried so many things, and expected to send them back. The first night, I did not wake up to change my shirt ONCE. This is something that genuinely *never* happens for me. I own sheets that "wick" away sweat (not really, but they're light at least), so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with my being able to feel the coolness through my pillow cases. The regular sized insert has to be filled with 10 cups of "very warm" water, left to cool for 4 hours (on a flat surface, like the kitchen counter), and then you're told to release the air bubble to increase comfort. This item cannot be put in the freezer, but CAN be put in the fridge. I put it in the fridge a couple hours before bed, and there have been times where it's actually been too cold. It gets very gold in the fridge. I just fold them over and slide them into my fridge so that they'll fit. When it's left out to cool on it's own, I can compare the coolness to a tile floor in an air conditioned home. Just cool. When put in the fridge for a short amount of time, the chill does indeed last through the night. In fact, it's lasted 12 hours + for me, and as mentioned, I'm an extremely hot sleeper. After about a week of owning this product, I've had to change my shirt only about 3 times total. Again, this is unheard of for me. I put the "Petite" insert under my bottom sheet towards me feet (which is another area that holds a ton of heat) and I believe it's benefitted my night sweat issues as well. I'm really surprised to see the two reviews that have said it didn't work or hold it's chill, but I can only assume that it wasn't put in the fridge first. I don't ever think anything is cold enough, and other things usually get up to my body temperature in under an hour. Just not the case with these. I'll be confidently recommending this item to others with my condition. I really hope it continues to work, because already so many feelings of depression and irritability have eased up. I haven't gone multiple days of feeling mentally "well", in years because I never get a real sleep. I also don't find these uncomfortable at all. My condition consists of a lot of pain and sensitivity, but maybe I'm not as sensitive as I thought, since they texture hasn't bothered me in the least, nor has the smell. They do sort of have an odor, but it smells sterile to me, and I think that personally, that smell calms me.
This is truly worth a try for anyone suffering from night sweats. I feel like I've tried it all, and I've never experienced results like this. Here's to hoping my body doesn't just get used to it and manipulate a way around it!
