Take It For What It Is!,

I have always been a fan of Epmd, and somewhat of a bigger fan of Erick Sermon. However Erick is no Nas, or Kweli, this man isn't exactly a lyrical genius. The appeal of E-Dub is the Beats!!! No matter what this man does his tracks are Bangin and they always have been, His beats are always Tight! I think to many people expect him to rhyme better but he is just givin you sumpin to ride his beats. He is not a lyricist by trade and once you accept that and just let the hot beats under your skin your lovin all his tracks. Now I'm not sayin his lyrics aint tight hes doin better then 70% of the game out there right now when it comes to writin im just sayin you buy an Erick Sermon Album for the beats like you'd buy a Talib Kweli Album for the lyrics. Simple As That! Redman, Kweli, and newcomer Sy Scott all have guest appearences on Chilltown and they all shine and hold there own over the masterfully crafted beats! This is another great album from The Man They Call "E". This album is not as good as his 2001 release "Music" However it is far superior to "React". Any fans of Epmd or Erick Sermon Pick Up "Chilltown New York".

get this album if your fed up with mainstream garbage. in his first track he raps about no one doesnt have talent in rap anymore. also raps about theres nothing new in the rap game anymore and everything is rapping about the same exact thing now. and that rappers these days always have "featuring" "featuring" in it. he also says that people dont wanna listen to him no more and the rappers arent rappers no more there actors. so if your fed up with the mainstream crap mtv or bet or the radio then cop this album here the truth and let them know. VOTE FOR ME PLEASE!

Erick Sermon comes back with an album that i listen to all the time. It is a funny album that attacks the state of rap today and most of the attacks are very true in todays rap music. These are also some of the best beats sermon has done in awhile. My favorits include Street Hop, Relentless, Chillin', God Sent, and Can You Hear Me Now. Go pick up this underrated album now.

As a bonafide follower of EPMD and fragments thereof, I am qualified to review this album. Put all thoughts aside of how hot EPMD could have been if they never broke up. Forget that Erick Sermon ever made dollars with anybody else. Let's continue...
This album is very average. In fact, since Erick Onasis, e has been unable to achieve much else. Even the impact of his lil' 1-2 hits is starting to weaken. "Feel It", though radio-friendly, doesn't even feature Sean Paul, it samples him and features some Marvin Gaye wannabe. Standouts on this album are "Wit Ee's", "Chillin'" w/ Talib Kweli & Whip Montez, "Relentless" and e's stab at south-coast appeal, "Future Thug" with Redman and 'bama-tounged 11/29. To be honest, This album is almost like trying to slice cheese with a rubber ball. It's frustrating! I found myself stretching to feel some of e's tracks. When I'm in this stage, I can stomach "Listen" w/ Keith Murray, who sounds like he is fresh out of the wrapper, and Sy Scott, who is greatly good, greatly greatly hood, spittin' good greatly like greatly should. "I'm Not Him" is an OK track, too. Other than that, I can't be bothered with this album. I really only pick it up to hear "Chillin'", and sometimes try to let it spin (sometimes). OK, you can remember EPMD again. e will be dropped from Universal after this, which will hopefully charge the EPMD reunion. Though e has had a more successful solo career than PMD, you could easily say that P's last album (The Awakening) blows this album out of the water. It's more obvious now than ever how much e needs PMD's vision behind him. Spare yourself the pain of buying this album. If you ain't know it was out, cop PMD's Awakening, while praying that "P gets focused" for We Mean Business.

I have heard a lot of bad reviews for this album. i must defend this album because it is good. First of all people are acting like e. sermon was always known for his lyrics??? Duh!! He's a producer who happens to rhyme. Do not by this album for the next hip hop quotable. Buy it for the tracks which are banging and for the fact that e.sermon is spitting some real things on this album.
In most of the songs you can really tell he is fed up with the state of hip hop. This album is well balanced and put together, redman and this new cat sy scott kills all the tracks they are featured on. It's short and to the point so u don't have to worry about the overkill. So go get the album, u know his tracks are hot.....hell every since when has hip hop just meant lyrics (think about it).

Solid 5th solo from E-Dub,
By

19 months since his last album, the Green Eyed Bandit is back with another solid solo album. Not his best solo, but not his worst, Chilltown is right in the middle. Only 12 songs, 1 is a classic, 5 are ok, and the other 6 are good, no bad ones. Guests rap on 4 songs so you get to hear what the Fiunklord has to say, and he addresses some issues on hip-hop's bad state at the moment. For the production, he went back to his old formula (that made us all love him in the first place) and did every song on here and he did a great job (as usual) with the beats. A great album for his fans to have or people who want to hear from a real pioneer of hip-hop who has been around for over 16 years.

Erick Sermon is definitely one of the established as both MC and producer in the game right now. He puts out hot singles on every single CD, but why does he not get the mainstream attention? This CD is great, started out kind of slowly and the first 2 or 3 songs werent very catchy, but after that every song is done with nice lyrics backed by solid production. The song with Redman really displayed lyrica talent with the word play and smooth delivery from both artists. Skits are kind of pointless, but they are short so it was not dreadful. Erick Sermon has a nice style of rap, oldschool, and his rap is not mainly about, guns, drugs, sex, ice, violence, hoes, chains, teeth, rims & how much of a pimp he is. He has this in your face, battle freestyle type of rap that has amazing word play and delivery. "Relentless" is a freestyle single that showed his talent. His monotone is a minus but it doesnt take long to get use to. IF you are looking for depth in Hip Hop, good delivery, good rhymes instead of the hype of the artist or popular subjects such as ones listed above, this is a VERY GOOD album.Delivery: A
