chilton's toyota cressida/van repair,
By peter bragaw (wilmington,de) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Chilton's Toyota Cressida and Van (Chilton's Repair & Tune-Up Guides) (Paperback)
O.K. for cressida, poor for van. Diagrams deal mostly with cressida. No trouble shooting section for many repairs. Not great for a typical do-it-self home mechanic. If I could,I'd ask for my money back

It's hard to find a repair manual for under $20.00, especially an older book. Great price for a greatly needed book. Just what I was looking for, everything I needed to know.

Hilariously, brazenly incompetent work,

I own a Toyota van, and have had no choice but to rely on this book to help me repair and maintain it. This manual is useless to the point of being dangerous. There are mistakes on every page; entire sections or pages are either left out or printed twice. The diagrams (and I'm speaking as an architect who is trained to understand such things), of which there are far too few for the van, are an indecipherable mess. I WISH there was some other source for the Toyota Van - the Hanes manual for my previous VW Jetta was a comprehensive, easy to use masterpiece - but unfortunately not. It is mind-boggling that the Chilton people actually published this book - somebody should be serving time for producing this complete fraud of a car-maintenance manual.

Useless for the Toyota Le Van,
By Frustrated Bob (Vancouver, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Chilton's Toyota Cressida and Van (Chilton's Repair & Tune-Up Guides) (Paperback)
All I wanted to do was:
(1) diagnose an electrical short; and (2) replace the power steering belt and this manual was completely useless. It is an insult that it was published and remains available for suckers to buy. For example, with regard to changing the power steering belt, the manual gave general vague instructions, like "loosen off the driven component, and move it towards the crank", but it would not tell you how the H*!! to do that. This book couldn't even tell me how to remove the rotor. As a matter of fact, I still haven't fixed my van and it lies derelict, due to my continued inability to work on it.
