Repairs and Refers and Rides, Oh My!, July 31, 2010
This review is from: Chilton's repair & tune-up guide, Mercedes-Benz, 1974-79: Gasoline & diesel models, 230, 240D, 280, 280C, 280E, 280CE, 280S, 280SE, 300D, 300CD, 300SD, 300TD, 450SE, 450SEL, 450SEL 6.9, 450SL, 450SLC (Paperback)
The book is comparable with other Chilton manuals, and gets you started on what you need to know and do very basic troubleshooting. I have been fixing my own American, European and Japanese cars (Volvos, Saab, Pontiac, VWs, Mercedes Benz, Toyotas, Fords, etc.) for close to 30 years now and I found this particular book lacked sufficient details for the goal of the book to cover so many models and years. It spread itself too thin. Some of the images were not properly titled or referred to in the text. Overall a good book for starting out, but I highly recommed getting the Reapir Manual CDs available online as a more detailed companion for MB models. They are different enough that the CDs will help. Still part of fixing older cars is the fun of getting into it, greasy, with lots of aha moments and a few choice words along the way. Good luck and keep learning!
