Chimaira: The Dehumanizing Process. INCREDIBLE DVD,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Chimaira: Dehumanizing Process (DVD)
I didn't really think that much of Chimaira when I heard 'Pass Out of Existence', but when TIOR came out, I decided to give them another go, and I immediately became a huge fan after hearing TIOR. Then, when 'Dehumanising Process' came out, I immediately bought it. And trust me, it was worth the purchase.
On the DVD itself is a live set in Holland, a feature length documentary about Chimaira, and all their videos. Firstly, the live set is AMAZING. Hunter's voice is as raw as ever, Rob and Matt's guitars are played with extreme talent, even the bass is audible, and Andols once again shows he is one of the best drummers. The live set includes: Power Trip Cleansation Severed Eyes Of A Criminal Down Again The Dehumanizing Process Pure Hatred The best performed songs IMO were 'Cleansation', 'Eyes Of A Criminal', 'Dehumanizing Process', and 'Pure Hatred'. Now for the documentary. Over an hour of everything you need to know about Chimaira, and how it all started, you see shots of them playing live all over the world, how they recorded TIOR, guest appearances from Robb Flynn of Machine Head and Corey Taylor of Slipknot, and that slightly major accident while filming 'Down Again'. Has some pretty funny parts as well. The music videos: Sp Lit Down Again Pure Hatred Power trip My favorite videos are Power Trip and Pure Hatred. Also included with the DVD is the super rare, out of print 'This Present Darkness' EP, with two bonus tracks never heard before. After listening to it, I could see why Chimaira got signed. Also has liner notes from Mark Hunter. Overall, this is one of the best music DVDs ever made. You will not regret buying it. CHIMAIRA FOREVER!!!

I went into this expecting very little. I think it's always a mistake to show the lighter side of a metal band. I bought this only for the 'This Present Darkness EP.' Despite my strong feelings objecting the whole concept of this movie I watched it. I felt it did show the band's humanity in a positive way. I never thought 'The Impossibility Of Reason' was extremely good, I always found it a bit overrated, but coming out of watching this, I think it's wonderful. That's all this movie is actually, it follows Chimaira during the production and touring of that CD. It also covers the loss of two drummers and the band's feelings on how the departures went down. The live footage throughout is really what holds this film together. Knowing that Mark can really hit those screams, growls, and singing during concert is really a nice thing to know. I bought this after hearing their new CD 'Chimaira,' which features some death metal growls and feared that he wasn't actually doing it. But after watching this, I now know that he does, and can. Mark is also the most intriguing member of the band in my opinion. He's the only one that never fully opened up to the camera. He almost seems like a bystander at times. But it's obvious at the end of this movie, that these guys shouldn't be doing anything but making music...simply put.
On the special features of this DVD you can watch a concert they did. While not being the best show you'll ever see, they do do the music justice. The opening to 'The Impossibility of Reason' is awesome. If you haven't had the opportunity to see it, Mark has the crowd split in two and when he says the word (which is 'explode'), they all start a pretty big mosh pit. 'Pure Hatred' is also performed very good, but the crowd was horrible at that show so when it came their time to say the chorus, you couldn't hear a word of it. As a band though, it's clear that they're very good live. The videos are okay, nothing groundbreaking by any means. I feel the only video that is redeeming is 'Pure Hatred.' I think the others shouldn't have ever been released. The CD included, 'This Present Darkness EP' is, like I said, the reason I bought this. And it was well worth the money I paid too. The quality is very raw which makes their sound that much better in my opinion. A nice completion to a worthy DVD. All in all, this is definitely something everyone should pick up. If not for the CD, for the DVD. Because unlike the terrible bio-pic of Metallica's, this doesn't show the band in therapy. It simply follows them through the recording process.

This DVD was one of the best band DVD's that I have ever bought. Chimaira is my favorite band since Pantera. It was just amazing to see everything they went through during the recording process of TIOR. These are real down to earth folks. They don't act like rock stars at all. You get to find out about all of the individual band members. It's nice to see what it's really like to be in a band, and to see the good side also with the not so good side. A very honest and open presentation. It's almost depressing at times, especially the section with Andols.
I wish the DVD was a little more like the Pantera home videos, that's my only complaint. The secondary audio track almost makes up for that. Just purchase this already, this DVD is worth the price just for the extras it has (TPD, all the videos, full live concert).

I have been listening to these guys for a while and I was enthralled by their musical prowess from the get go! I didn't know who they were and only judged them on their music! Which made me love them! They are a damn ARMY! These guys live and breathe music we all have been dying to hear! Music let's face it has gone to the crapper as of late! Well let me tell you these guys will make the hair on your neck stand straight up! Remember those days? It's hard but I know you can! So enough ranting! I loved these guys on pure music alone! But wait! The blessing is upon us! THE DVD! WOW! and WOW! and WOW! Now I get to meet these guys and see who they really are!! NO WAY! They are even more professional than I could ever imagine and the way the DVD is done is amazing! One minute you are moshing around your living room! The next you are standing in front of the TV ready to punch someone! The next you are ready to cry just listening to the heartache these guys go through to just do what they love! It is as good or better than a movie! I'm telling you my friends! Our music is back and they are leading the charge! I get goose bumps writing this! This is a REAL band! Buy it and ENJOY! UNREAL! Thanks Chimaira!!!
Where the hell is the button for 6 stars!?! ******

One of the Best Band Documentaries,
This review is from: Chimaira: Dehumanizing Process (DVD)
For all of those who ever wanted any insight on what it takes to be in a band and the sacrifices that must be made in order to keep a working functional group, this is the dvd you should buy. It's not exactely a Pantera home video, but it has the elements which makes it fun. It's not another "Some Kind of Monster" but it has plenty of extremely strong scenes which could give you goosebumps. This is a definitive band documentary because it really uncovers every aspect of being, working and functioning in a group without any sugar coating. Even if you're not a fan of Chimaira you can fully appreciate them and artists like them who do this because they love doing it.
Unlike other dvd's that have the basic extras, this dvd is packed beyond belief with goodies (especially if you are a Chimaira fan). Not only do you get the documentary, but the dvd also comes with a complete live show filmed in holland which was mixed by Colin Richardson (Machine Head, Fear Factory) and i must say it sounds amazing. it also has every single music video they have ever made which would be 4 in total and the documentary itself can be watched with commentary which is hilarious. The dvd also comes with an extra cd which is the bands first record called "This Present Darkness", This present darkness has been out of print for quite some time and to have a fully remastered version with 2 bonus tracks is awesome. Anyone who loves band documentaries should really get this dvd.

This review is from: Chimaira: Dehumanizing Process (DVD)
The dehumanizing process is a very essential music dvd to all Chimaira fans because it has their first album/E.P. called This present darkness and its just fantastic, its what got them signed in the first place and its a very rare album it also has a few extra tracks included in the album. The dvd has a feature length documentary that shows everything from recording their second album The imposibility of reason and the problems they have had while on tour like losing their drummer Andols, there are a couple of live shows and behind the scenes that I found out to be very interesting although the comentary track was useless because it seems like the band members were wasted when they recorded it, there was a hilarious appearence from Corey Taylor of Slipknot and Kerry King who was praising the band.
Mark Hunter also tells us how difficult it is for a metal band to successed in the music buisness and once your second album doesn't sell enough albums then your dropped of from the label or record industry and forgotten about, you get to see the pressure of this band as they continue to make great music. The dvd also has all their music videos from the first two albums and live footage from the roadrage tour 2003 in Holland which is the best part as they play some of their best song like Eyes of a criminal, Power trip, Dehuminizing process ect. and the sound quality was very good 5.1 suround sound. Overall this was a very good and indepth look at this amazing metal band, if you're a true Chimaira fan then you'll defenitely love this. Their latest self titled album by far was their best album yet and I cannot wait to hear what they come up with next I highly recomend this dvd.

Almost Great DVD,

This review is from: Chimaira: Dehumanizing Process (DVD)
I'm not give this title 5 stars because the live show on this dvd
is too short, and as far as i know there's no hidden content on this dvd and the extra feature is too little. but the band documenter is not bad at all, its a lot talking about their music and the band career and a very little about their personal life (this is a good point, f**k about their personal life is all about the music) not like the stupid ill nino dvd is full of crap and the live show is suck. The live show is great but is just too bad cause is too short, maybe i will give this title 5 star if this title had a feature like soulfly dvd the songs remains insane, there is a lot of live music and lot of extra & hidden feature.

I've been a big fan of Chimaira for years now so needless to say, my expectations for this DVD were pretty high, but they were blown away! The bonus CD "The Present Darkness" and the live show footage from Holland alone are worth the price of this DVD, but these are only the extras that you get with it! "The Dehumanizing Process" is a very-well produced documentary that follows Chimaira through the recording of and touring for their sophomore Roadrunner Records release, "The Impossibility of Reason." Rest assured that this WILL NOT be a DVD that you'll watch once and then will have collect dust. YOU WILL BE HAPPY YOU BOUGHT THIS DVD. NOW BUY IT!

I watched this DVD Friday evening, and alot of it again on Sunday. This a comprehensive, well thought out offering, giving you more value than the asking price. Seeing all the guys do their thing in the recording uh, garage, is an eye opener for anyone that thinks Chimaira is a fly by nighter. These guys have passion, drive, and most of all (this goes for their bass player too-he he), bucket loads of talent. They are for the most part perfectionists, and it translates into a live performance which is in my humble opinion, even better than what they've captured on 'The impossibility of reason' CD.
Buy this if you're a fan of Chimaira, or if you'd like to get a glimpse into the lives of metal legends in the making. PS-Slipknot fans will get to see what Corey Taylor gets up to when he's not screaming his ass off...(Hint: Mask, sock-nothing else. har har!) |
