Editorial Reviews

Chimeric is the fourth full length album from the Austrian trio Radian after a five year absence. The members of Radian are all huge parts of the avant electronic music scene and have a very large cultish following. They all perform in other groups besides Radian such as Lokai, Trapist, and Kapital Band 1. Anticipation for Chimeric has been building for years and we are given something much more free. CD version is presented in a 4 panel mini-LP style jacket. LP version is limited to 1,000 copies and comes with free download coupon.

With CHIMERIC, Radian merges the live and the processed even more, as "Git Cut Noise" dives into much more confrontational space, with isolated stabs before the track explodes with an all-encompassing guitar fuzz and feedback. "Feedbackmikro/City Lights" starts out spare but actually develops something close to a melody over its run time, while "Chimera" drifts until it reaches its rousing conclusion. "Subcolors" rounds out the album back on a spare note, with instruments appearing and disappearing in an empty sonic space, until it finally settles into what sounds like a groove. Some challenging work here.
