5.0 out of 5 stars Political Satire - Funny and Powerful
The most devasting use of the President's own words since "Quotations from Chairman LBJ" in the late 60's. Silly but serious fun that's a great quick read - this local author definitely has a poet's ear for language. And, a nice bonus, I finally understand why George H.W. Bush chose Quayle as his Vice President!

On a trip to the United States I passed through the lovely town of Portland, Oregon and found this atrocity in a massive used book store. The cover looked funny and entertaining, but all these thoughts were quelled the moment I began to read the book. Nonetheless its sheer stupidity kept me turning the pages.
Upon reading this book, I was struck by the ignorance of this author. Not only does this short novel lack any coherent structure, but also is a sour attempt at humor. I can understand that Bush's face looks like a chimp's, but joking about how he has been switched at birth for a "hairless chimpanzee" is unimaginative and banal. My question is, "who cares?" If you want to chastise a political leader, why not do so intelligently, citing resources and using facts to back up your claims. Quotes used out of context don't cut it.
A very unhappy read. Overall very disappointing and a waste of your time. Hardly worth a review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Political satire -- zany, wildly imaginative, and fun, April 21, 2004

I just finished reading NO CHIMP LEFT BEHIND and found it to be a wacky and brilliant political satire about our president and present life in the United States. The book weaves in actual quotes from W. and that's the scary part. The hip wildness of the book - in which a group of chimps take over the world - is reminiscent of the novels of Tom Robbins. It's both silly and smart at the same time. Enjoy!

Book Review:
Cassandra Sagan: No Chimp Left Behind

Cassandra Sagan is a poet who previously published several poetry chapbooks. This "children's book for grown-ups" is her most recent triumph.

No Chimp Left Behind (subtitled, "An Explanication of the Presidential Origin of the Speechities") is the story of Victor Vincent Thorn, generally known by his initials as "Double V," a hairless chimpanzee substituted for a human infant which grew up to become president. It follows his history as he careers through life, constantly assisted by his wealthy father and his father's friends, until he attains leadership of the country that leads the world. There, he is constantly surrounded by aides who try, with not very much success, to correct his language skills. (It becomes clear throughout the book that his syntax is that of chimpanzees.)

Cassandra has written a laugh-out-loud satire liberally (if I can use that word) laced with quotes from a certain White House resident (all actual quotes are in bold face - appropriate, that - and sources noted in the endnotes). The book is $9.95 and may be purchased on-line at amazon.com or at www.nochimpleftbehind.com or in alternative bookstores.

I just finished No Chimp Left Behind. A refreshing and fun read - and one plausible explanication for why Curious George acts the way he does.

Sagan's got a great website, too. http://www.nochimpleftbehind.com

The song is worth hearing and there are some great illustrations and animated images.

For the dog days of regime change! Bye Bye, George.
