Book Description

4 and up
It's a stormy day in Jungletown, and Chimp and Zee have been cooped up inside for too long. Hoping for a little peace and quiet, Mumkey and Papakey agree to let the twins go outside to help bring in the laundry from the clothesline. But along comes a sudden gust of wind that blows Chimp and Zee up and away! Will Mumkey and Papakey be able to save them? This witty, rhyme-filled story has a wonderful read-aloud text and adorable, brightly colored illustrations that are sure to engage toddler and preschool audiences. It's a wet and windy adventure for Chimp and Zee-luckily for these two plucky siblings, there are sunny times ahead!

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

The mischievous monkeys return in Chimp and Zee and the Big Storm by Laurence Anholt, illus. by Catherine Anholt. In this adventure, the duo is swooped up by high winds, then saved just in the nick of time by their quick-thinking Mumkey. ( Sept.)

From School Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 2-This story tells of a day in the life of two ornery chimps who disobey their parents, fight with one another, and lie about their actions, all with no reprimand from the adults. Trying to fold a sheet, they are carried off by the Big Storm and taken over the Very Dangerous Cliffs before being rescued by Mumkey and Papakey. Parts of the text rhyme, though most of it doesn't, and the story doesn't flow well. The narrative is chopped into sections and placed around the pages. Some of the type appears in brightly colored boxes. The illustrations are done in pencil, ink, and watercolor and then cut out and pasted on to solid-colored backgrounds, creating stark, erratic white edges around the figures. The overall effect of the layout and design is nervous tension. Most children will lose interest before the final page.
