Kindergarten-Grade 2-This story tells of a day in the life of two ornery chimps who disobey their parents, fight with one another, and lie about their actions, all with no reprimand from the adults. Trying to fold a sheet, they are carried off by the Big Storm and taken over the Very Dangerous Cliffs before being rescued by Mumkey and Papakey. Parts of the text rhyme, though most of it doesn't, and the story doesn't flow well. The narrative is chopped into sections and placed around the pages. Some of the type appears in brightly colored boxes. The illustrations are done in pencil, ink, and watercolor and then cut out and pasted on to solid-colored backgrounds, creating stark, erratic white edges around the figures. The overall effect of the layout and design is nervous tension. Most children will lose interest before the final page.
