The chin-up bar works great. My door frames aren't real wide so I put a pair of socks where the bar touches the door casing so that it doesn't get ruined. The bands however were terrible. 3 of them broke the first couple weeks. Totally worthless for P90X.

For me at 110lbs, it's okay, but for my boyfriend at 180lb...the bar started to bend. Not so great for the guys.

The chin up bar is excellent, but the bands are kinda cheap. One of them has already broken. I would recommend finding the exact chin up bar, but find different bands.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent deal for the price, July 12, 2011

This review is from: New Chin Up bar Pull Up Bar with Bonus Gift (Misc.)
I bought this mostly for the pull up bar and the resistance band door attachment(for bands I already have) After reading the reviews about the bands breaking, I plan on using my other ones I already had in fear of getting hit by a broken band.

The instructions that came with the Bar were hard to figure out, I had to look up similar bars to find people helping with the instructions, the instructions have a contrast issue, its hard to see what bar sits on top of the other. Overall it took me 15 minutes to put it together, it would have been faster with an actual tool. After doing a few work outs with the bar it fits well in the door frame but as others have said, you may want to use a towel or some sort of padding to help the doorframe from being damaged. I'm around 220 and the bar has a slight give to it when I do assisted pull ups, but nothing that will keep me from using it though.

Overall for the price, I'm very happy with this purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Chin up bar and bands a little flimsy, March 21, 2011

I purchased this product a few months back. I decided to come back and write a review. Now that I look at the picture, I see that the "kit" has changed its contents from what I purchased. However, the bands and chin up bar look the same. Here's my experience.
The chin up bar has some give to it. It has not bent permanently, but it does flex a bit, which is not desireable. The bar is metal and will impact (crush) most wooden trim around a door frame. It has no padding. I added padding using the bar cushions from a leg press machine and it no longer hurts the door molding. The part that braces against the top of the door, and presses against the drywall, will indent the drywall at the points where the screws are located. I put a common felt pad (like the kind that goes under a chair leg to stop it form scratching the floor) over the screws and that solved that problem. The bar hangs below the top of the door frame. A lot of door chin up products I used in the past have the bar above the door frame. Which is better if you are tall (I am 6'2"). With this product below the door frame, my knees almost touch the ground. I had to modify the door anchor to get it to hang higher. I would not recommend this mod since it affects the stability of the product a bit. After the mods, I still use the chin up bar, I only wish it was as high as my old one and did not flex during pull ups.
The exercise bands worked. However the tension in the yellow and black bands seems exactly the same. Also, the tension in the red and blue bands also seems the same. I notice no difference. I like the fact that mine came with an interchangeable handle. That meant I can string multiple bands together to one handle and increase the resistance. The bands in the pic above do not look like they have this feature anymore. The red band is easy to extend. It was the first to break. It snapped and hit my foot like a bullwhip, much to the delight of my family. It broke near the handle where the bead is inserted in the tube. I tied a figure eight knot in the band and put it back into the handle and I haven't had a problem since.
The plastic fat caliper was very useful. Once I got the hang of getting the same reading everytime, it gave me some useful measurements to gauge my progress. Combined with the measuring tape, it keeps me motivated.
I think, overall, for the money, I like the value I got.

3.0 out of 5 stars Chin Up Bar, March 3, 2011

The bar offers several positions for a good workout. However, the bar includes extensions that tend to increase the torque on the doorframe contact points. After just one use, I noticed serious indentations in our wooden door frame trim. The design should include a stiff protective pad to distribute the load against the door frame.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product for the price!, February 1, 2011

This review is from: New Chin Up bar Pull Up Bar with Bonus Gift (Misc.)
I just recently got p90x for my wife to start using. She complained that she was not able to do all of the exercises because she lacked the 'required' equipment. After comparing many pull up bars (some for $100+ that look exactly the same) I settled on this one because of the extra resistance bands and much lower price.

Many people have complained about the quality of the resistance bands, but as is noted they apparently starting using a different product "Starting July, 2010". So any reviews about the quality of resistance bands before then should be taken with a grain of salt. Both my wife and I have used them and they seem like they are good quality and should last. There is also a good variety in the resistances and I am able to use the strongest ones and still get a decent workout while she only uses the first few.

All in all, I have to say that I am happy with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone looking for a good workout set for p90x.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Bar, nice bands- a little tough to put together, January 22, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: New Chin Up bar Pull Up Bar with Bonus Gift (Misc.)
Arrived quickly and then had to put it together. They give you this dinky little tool to tighten the nuts, and it's just stupid to try to use it; good thing I have my own tools and some common sense! The directions were junk, but it was easy to figure out how it went. It mounts in a doorway and you're supposed to then screw in these J-mount brackets into your wall/studs. We didn't screw them in and it is sturdy without them (but I don't recommend doing that if you are going to have kids on it). Make sure you have a doorway that has at least 12" clearance on both left and right side before you buy though. We ended up only having one doorway in the whole house that can accomodate the bar.
The bar is for my husband, I use the bands. The bands are decent- I'm not a body builder. They seem a little lightweight though- not much resistance to them? o well
