5.0 out of 5 stars I love this stuff
This stuff gives me better relief than any other pain gel I've tried, and it smells better, too. I've been suffering neck pain for years due to cat allergies (I think) and since I won't get rid of my cats, need a daily neck massage of those overworked lymph nodes. This one gives near instant relief, and I even feel the stress melting away after using it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware of toxic ingredients!
"China gel" contains among its ingredients toxic chemicals such as:

1. Triethanolamine: a skin, immune system, and respiratory toxin
2. DMDM Hydantoin: a formaldehyde releaser
3. Blue 1 (CI 42090) and Yellow 5 dyes. Recent studies have shown synthetic dyes to trigger allergic reactions

This means that you are periodically and...

This product really works-stops the pain! The only minus, to this product, is that it has a very strong smell.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware of toxic ingredients!, July 21, 2011

This means that you are periodically and pointlessly being exposed to toxins. Anything that is applied to the skin is absorbed directly into one's bloodstream.

I had this applied to my neck during a jivamukti class. My skin immediately had an allergic reaction, redness, and swelling.

2.0 out of 5 stars NOT ALL NATURAL, October 8, 2010
This review is from: China Gel Topical Pain Reliever - 4 oz jar (Health and Beauty)
Although this product claims to be a "unique formula of natural ingredients", it's really important to note that it is not ALL NATURAL. It does carry 7 natural herbal ingredients which unlike most products in a similar category offer pain relieve with a pleasant smell, it's really important to note that this product is made with preservatives DMDM Hydantoin and Urea, very irritating preservative (that releases Formaldehyde) to the skin for those with allergies. In addition to the heating element, and the preservatives, this gel can prove to be VERY irritating to those with allergies. I personally have found that Traumeel is completely natural and preservative free. Although it doesn't carry a scent, nor a heating aspect, it works really nicely to achieve the same end results. I just wanted to let users know who may have skin allergies to steer clear of china gel, and try an alternative to avoid a nasty allergic reaction.

INFO on FORMALDEHYDE releasing Preservatives:
DMDM Hydantoin, Diazolidinyl Urea and Imidazolidinyl Urea - DMDM hydantoin, diazolidinyl urea and imidazolidinyl urea are preservatives that release formaldehyde. It is estimated that 20 per cent of people exposed to this chemical will experience an allergic reaction. Exposure to formaldehyde may cause "joint pain", depression, headaches, chest pains, ear infections, chronic fatigue, dizziness and loss of sleep. In lab tests, formaldehyde has caused cancer and damaged DNA. Formaldehyde is a known sensitizer. Imidazolidinyl urea may cause contact dermatitis in some individuals.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fast Relief - Made in the US!, June 27, 2011

I have sore/arthritic hands and was looking for something for instant relief. I also have a daughter who pitches fastpitch softball. She doesn't have pain but I use this anyways mixed with oil to rub her shoulders after games and the night before games.

It's got a strong menthol smell but it isn't offensive (to me, anyways). It also has a very cool, relieving sensation. I won't use during the day since I share office space with other people, so I use it at home in the evening or on the weekends.

I feel the smell of the menthol and the cooling sensation is calming...rub on your temples if you have a headache. This will definitely stay in the medicine cabinet and in the medical bag for all to use. AND- it's made in the USA!!

(seal was broken when received- but fast shipping and okay pricing)

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Stuff - Helps With Arthritis, Sore Muscles, You Name It!!!, November 18, 2009

If you are achey after a workout, have low back or piriformas pain, or have arthritis - this stuff works really well. Massage it in - you don't need a lot - just work it in really well. I often use it on my lower back and apply a moist heating pad afterwards - takes the pain away within 20 minutes.

Be sure you wash your hands after using it as if you touch your eyes, it will sting.
I promise you you won't be disappointed. Doesn't smell as much as Tiger Balm but has a similar effect.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great stuff....but..., June 29, 2010

This stuff works better than bio-freeze type pain relievers. But, for Pete's sake, do they HAVE to put coloring\dyes into it. I find it hard to believe that the inventor, being a Chinese herbalist would even consider that. Please...WE DO NOT NEED DYE PRODUCTS IN OUR FOODS AND SKIN PRODUCTS. We all need to realize that we are better off without chemicals, dyes, and perfumes in anything that goes in or on our bodies.
I would have otherwise given this 5 stars. It does work well.
