China Miéville is the author of King Rat; Perdido Street Station, winner of the Arthur C. Clarke Award and the British Fantasy Award; The Scar, winner of the Locus Award and the British Fantasy Award; Iron Council, winner of the Locus Award and the Arthur C. Clarke Award; Looking for Jake, a collection of short stories; and Un Lun Dun, his New York Times bestselling book for younger readers. He lives and works in London.

China Tom Miéville (born 6 September 1972) is an English fantasy fiction author, comic writer and academic. He is fond of describing his fiction as "weird fiction" (after early twentieth century pulp and horror writers such as H. P. Lovecraft), and belongs to a loose group of writers sometimes called New Weird. He is active in left-wing politics as a member of the International Socialist Organization (US), and formerly of the Socialist Workers Party (UK). He has stood for Regent's Park and Kensington North for the Socialist Alliance in the 2001 General election; He published his PhD thesis on Marxism and international law as a book in 2005. He teaches creative writing at Warwick University; in 2012-13, he was Writer-in-Residence at Roosevelt University in Chicago.
