Unbeatable, and Just About Perfect!,

This review is from: China: A Novel (Hardcover)
This is a beautifully done mini-generation saga of 2 English families, one with old money in the English Chinaware trade, the other a 1960's acting/photo divorced couple. Both have male offspring with interests completely different than the parents:jazz trumpet, and Anarchistic politics. Any short summary does this book a severe injustice, but this is also a novel of ideas: music, industry and commerce, the English countryside and resort scene, collecting and finance, and so on. Just a Fine book deserving of much attention!

This review is from: China: A Novel (Hardcover)
This is a fine, complex novel by an outstandingly good writer. He deals with a whole variety of ideas including Western materialism, the collecting instinct and the function of the artist. I read this twice and will read it again soon.
