this is a story book! this book is only based on HER life experience and OPINION. If that's what you're looking for then this book is fine, and it may be interesting to you if you want to read of one person's experience as evidence of the validity and reliability of the chinese zodiac.
but personally it was not helpful for me, because i'm not interested in reading someone else's opinion for this subject, because i already have my own, you don't need to convince me that people display characteristics of their sign.
this is a story book, so the title is misleading!
it's not a bad book, but it wasn't useful to me, it's just not what i thought it was going to be, it's not what i was looking for.

Have you felt miffed and somewhat insulted in the past when someone told you that you were an animal? Wouldn't it be enlightening to find out just what kind of an animal you are? In Suzanne White's your beast. The book, as the name implies, is easy to understand and fun to read. For those who feel jaded and lackluster about everyday life, this book brings incredible insight detailing the different personas determined by the year in which you were born. The chapters also include a sub-category which combines your Western and Eastern signs to provide specialized info and a separate read for both the females and the males of the Chinese chart. Authoress Suzanne White sprinkles the book with stories of Horses, Tigers, Goats (...and so on!) she has known throughout her life, safeguarding the book against the dry and clinical air so many non-fiction books assume. You will learn compatabilities in affairs of the heart, social affairs, business affairs, and family affairs. And if all these juicy tidbits weren't enough, the best gift of all is bestowed upon the reader... the grand finale of the book tells what each year holds in store for your sign! Whether you have an passionate interest in astrology, or just like an amusing (and INTERESTING) read, I highly recommend Plain and Simple. This was Suzanne White's first book, and it is certainly no accident that it was plucked back out and re-printed for a whole new group of fans to devour!

A classic work of writing genius, agility, and humor. Suzanne White puts the reader on a trampoline, bouncing him lightly through the otherwise complex study of Asian astrology. The book is sprung with anecdotes about real life. Instead of boring charts teaching me about my planets rising on my Seventh House, White doesn't tell. She shows.

Once you've overcome the horror of discovering you're a Pig or a Snake like me, or a Rat like my brother Steve, you will identify with a great number of traits connected to your own Chinese Animal Sign.

Fascinating. Entertaining. Educational. I am so hooked on CHINESE ASTROLOGY PLAIN AND SIMPLE that we are planning a Tiger Party for my girlfriend's birthday.

This one's a classic! I cannot tell you how old my first copy is, but this book has been a permanent resident on my bedside table for at least 20 years. It used to be called CHINESE CHANCE. But apparently Suzanne White changed publishers midstream and re-published it as CHINESE ASTROLOGY PLAIN AND SIMPLE. Whatever happened,it's a fantastically funny and easy-to-read book, full of pungent stories and anecdotes about people of each Animal sign. Bt the time you finish reading it, you will not only know the basics of Chinese Astrology, but you'll know lots more about yourself and those around you. I never let my copy out of the house. It's my second Bible.

Suzanne White is really the high priestess of Chinese Astrology. Some people might not like her breezy style and those personal anecdotes she throws around, but I LOVE her writing and her simple way of presenting complex information. For once, I understood what my Dragon sign means in real life. I am a better person for owning all of Suzanne White's books - especially Plain and Simple. It's a classic!

If you are into astrology like me then this book is for you. So accurate it scares me a little. Very easy to read an understand.

I think Ms. White was the first to write about this subject however this book is full of very inaccurate over simplifications, lacking in insight and painted with broad strokes based on the author's singular experience with a particular person of a sign. I'd like to know what "animal" she is, as this has to be just about the worst and sadly misrepresents the wisdom and complexity of this system. Unfortunately, she filled a market for peoples curiosity and filled a niche thus making her an authority when she isn't one. I wonder who she studied this system from? She gives no credentials and as I stated no insight. As a matter of fact pretty much every entry I could not disagree with her more about her interpretation of those signs. And I actually learned Chinese astrology from someone who knew the system and was an astrologer, still I would not consider myself expert enough to pretend to have total understanding of this subject due to being of Western origin. The system is so steeped in the culture and ancient lore that having grown up outside the culture it's difficult to completely understand it which is why I suppose Suzanne White filled some sort of void. Still her work is very flawed. And while it gives one a jumping off point, it would be better to read websites and do research on the subject other places. So not worth the price of admission, sadly. And I hate to say all of this because I really wanted this to be good and informative.
