Book Description

New Longman Literature
What's the hook? A fascinating and moving autobiographical novel. What are the themes? Different cultures, families/generations, friendship, school life and the individual vs society. Teaching points? Excellent for multicultural work, as it is set against a background of life in Japanese occupied China. Ideal for exploring narrative structure as it is told simply as a series of snapshots. Comparative work opportunities as it includes the original story of Cinderella that originated in the Tang dynasty (AD 618-908).

This review is from: Chinese Cinderella (New Longman Literature) (Paperback)
This book is totally heart wrenching, and i cried for ages over some of the sad parts, such as when her father forgets her name and date of birth, and when her pet duck, PLT ( Precious Little Treasure), is killed by the dog, Jackie. Chinese Cindrella is so beautifully written that i really felt Adeline's sorrows as if i was in her place. You must read it!

A Kid's Review
An excellent and very appealing book. I really enjoyed the book. This book will appeal to all readers over 10 and is a fascinating story. As you follow Adeline's story you can really relate to her and feal the suffering that she goes through. The book is also interesting as it tells you a lot about Chinese history and culture. I really enjoyed this book and recommend people to read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heart wrenching, November 7, 2011
This review is from: Chinese Cinderella (Paperback)
Adeline Yen wrote such a heart wrenching tale of her childhood. As I read it, I wanted her to overcome and have something great come her way. I loved her Aunt Baba and relished the small bits of love she gave Adeline. I felt sorry for Adeline yet proud of her at the same time. This was a great tale to tell and I can't wait to read other books by this author.
