It's a cheap knife for someone who is willing to deal with the fact it's not stainless. If you are willing to steelie and wipe it after every use, you're in for a treat. Holds an edge really well, the shape of the blade is just right for vegetable cuttinng. I wish the outer edge was rounded on the butt side so that it can be used better for scraping up remains from a bowl and such, but it's a minor nit -- the upside is it's more comfortable to push stuff off the cutting board with the back edge.

It's simple, it works really well, it's 8" which is what I wanted (I'd actually even go for 10"), it's comfortable, it's cheap and it works. All I can ask for, great knife.

This Chinese vegetable knife holds a razor edge for a long time, and slices/chops/minces beautifully. Its handle is comfortable and non-slip, and it is nicely balanced. The blade is not stainless, and should be wiped dry after each use: it will darken into a dark patina over time from reactions with fruit acids. It comes beveled on both sides, but the owner should sharpen it so that the bevel is eventually only on the side of the hand that holds it (right-hand bevel for a right-handed person): that way perfect, paper-thin, oriental-style vertical cuts can be made easily.

For those who need a knife that can hold a sharper edge and retain it longer than stainless steel, this carbon steel knife is suitable and fairly cheap price. Not a full size cleaver, about half the size of a cleaver, more like a nakiri style knife. Original sharpness from the manufacturer was not too good, although the edge was straight and free of any defects. A few minutes on a sharpening stone and this knife is worthy of joining the pantheon of my other kitchen knives.

Only thing I would have preferred to be different would be the heel of the knife to be square, instead of round. I understand that the round shape is more safe for the operator, but I prefer my knives to have a square heel.

This knife has a very thin cast iron blade that takes and hold a super-sharp edge. It's thin blade with parallel surfaces makes it easy to make multiple thin slices of carrots, garlic, onions, celery, etc. for stir-fried and salads. Sharpen it so that the bevel is only on 1 side, and you'll be able to control the knife like no other. I love it, and I've purchased several for friends who appreciate fine dining and cooking. Note: wash and dry it immediately dyer use, and it won't rust!
