I have several Chinese cookbooks and this is, by far, the best Chinese cookbook I have. The dishes are delicious and the recipes are easy to follow. My mother, who is Chinese, gave me this cookbook when I first started cooking Chinese food and it is still my favorite. I absolutely love it and have tried almost every recipe in the book. I have tried other recipes from different Chinese cookbooks and they just don't hold up next to this one...my husband can attest to that. This is a cookbook for the true novice, a 5th grader could follow the recipes with ease.

Great Chinese Cookbook for beginners,
By coolmom (Edison, NJ USA) - See all my reviews

This was my first Chinese cookbook. I highly recommend this cookbook to the novice and intermediate Chinese cooks. The book contains many pictures and illustrations. Each recipe has its own photo, therefore, you have a sense of what the finished product should look like. The recipes are simple and very easy to follow. I have probably made every recipe in this book. The dishes turned out to be superb (even for a novice like me). I have since purchased many more cookbooks by this author. I have yet to be disappointed.

stupendous cook book,
This review is from: Chinese Cooking for Beginners (Paperback)
I have loved Chinese food for many years and have often wished I could recreate my favorite dishes at home. I've tried a few other cookbooks and those are currently sitting in my cupboard gathering dust. Some have good recipes but all require lots of ingredients and preparation time.
Chinese Cooking for Beginners on the other hand is fantastic. The recipes are easy to follow and can be made with only a few basic ingredients. The six dishes I've cooked so far were absolutely delicious. My wife jokes that she suddenly has a Chinese chef for a husband. There are several dozen other cookbooks in the Wei-chuan cooking series. Based on how impressed I am with this book, I recently ordered several others. So do your stomach a favor today and buy this book!

Solid, simple cookbook,
By DaveU (San Francisco Bay Area) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Chinese Cooking for Beginners (Paperback)
This slim cookbook covers a lot of common Chinese-American dishes, including chicken salad, roast pork, hot and sour soup, moo shu pork, egg foo yung, broccoli beef, sweet and sour shrimp, fried egg rolls, and fried wontons. The recipes are generally quite easy to follow, and are all beautifully illustrated, so you know what the end result is supposed to look like.
If you want to learn to cook the dishes that many people are used to getting from Chinese restaurants, this cookbook can be a great place to start.

Excellent Chinese Cook Book,

This is an excellent Chinese Cookbook for beginners. I have tried cooking many of the dishes; the instructions are easy to follow and the dishes turn out delicious. I am very happy I bought this book and will purchase more books from this series. Also, I did not think the instructions in English and Chinese were confusing (by the way, I can only read English).

Wonderful Chinese cook book,
By
This review is from: Chinese Cooking for Beginners (Paperback)
I was looking for a cook book with relatively simple recipes that I didn't have to go to the Asian market all the time to find ingredients for. The recipes are in English and in Chinese (which I figure is a good sign in a Chinese cook book), and are generally simple, easy to make, and the ingredients are often inexpensive, too.
All of the recipes we have tried so far have been delicious, have taken less than 45 minutes total to prepare (often less than a half hour), and our children have LOVED them, too. This isn't a book that only gives you versions of typical Chinese take-out (although there is a beef with broccoli and a couple of great chicken stir-fries); the recipes tend to be more homey and healthy. We've enjoyed it a lot.

It is an ok book.. but some dishes arent very chinese, westernized. But, some dishes are what I grew up eating. And what is still eaten right now.

Instructions too brief,

This book has great pictures but the instructions are almost too simple. For a beginning cook, it is hard to follow the brief instructions.

I love this cookbook and use it all the time,

I have this cookbook with the same ISBN number (0941676005), but with a 1984 copyright. The instructions are only in English. Anyway, it is an excellent cookbook. Each recipe has a color photo that shows what the finished dish should look like and about half of the recipes have additional photos showing preparation/cooking technique. The recipes are simple and if you have no experience cooking Chinese cuisine, you can become proficient after a couple of tries. There is also a six-page introduction that explains ingredients, equipment, technique, and so on. Once you have finished the preparation (chopping ingredients and mixing the sauces), the cooking takes very little time. Your kids will love the "ketchup chicken."

Chinese Cooking,
By A Customer

This book was a little hard to follow both in content and techniques. All of the recipies are written in both English and Chinese languages which gets a little confusing. These are not what I would call recipies for beginners.
