5.0 out of 5 stars Chinese Jump Rope
This is a great manual for a PE or Elementary teacher. The pictures and directions are very easy to understand and Chinese jump rope is a fun, low cost activity for a classroom teacher. 3.0 out of 5 stars It's okay
If you played Chinese jumprope as a kid, the book may not teach the basic jump you remember. My kids enjoy looking at the book and learning about other kinds of Chinese jumprope games, but they only do the basic jump I taught them from when I played.

The small rope is a little too short for them, but the extra-large one is nice when the kids want to have...

There are a lot of great ideas for individual and team games. Overall, this is an excellent activity guide for kids, but might be hard for younger children to comprehend without adult assistance. The two jump ropes that are included are very helpful because they are almost impossible to find in stores.

~ My niece got this last year when she was ten, and brought it to a family party.
The rope supplied with the set was the right size for the kids, and the illustrations were very clear.

I had remembered playing Chinese jump rope as a child, but couldn't remember any of the games.
The girls age 8-11, enjoyed playing, and even my mother and I jumped in!

This is a nice set for a girl age 7-11 who has friends or cousins enough easily available to start a game.
A nice guide, and entertaining at a children's gathering.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use, goes anywhere, January 11, 2007

I bought this for my 8-year-old daughter as something she could take to school in her pocket or school bag to play with on the play ground. When I was in elementary school we girls always played jump rope on the play ground during recess. But before the bell rang and after school we didn't have access to the playground toys. A Chinese jump rope was something we could wad up in our pockets and use any time we wanted. The ideas in this book were new to me...not at all like the kinds of "jumps" my friends and I did back in the day. But new ideas are always fun. My daughter loves her new jump rope and her friends at school are enjoying it too. It's so simple even my younger two children can play with her...or she can use a couple of kitchen chairs to hold the ends of the elastic so she can practice when no one's around to play.

I had this game when I was a yougster myself! My three children enjoy it and are able to read the instructions and follow them on their own, so that gives them a sense of accomplishment. It also promotes physical activity which is great for children with lots of energy ~ gives them an outlet! I would definitely recommend this item.

I purchased this as a x-mas present for my 8 year old daughter. She is always looking for new games to play by her self and with friends. This game has been around for such a long time and I am so happy it still remains. This book does a great job explaining how to play each game. The 2 ropes that come with it are good quality as well. It is so inexpensive but worth so much more too. It keeps kids active, offers a variety of games for different numbers of players, very portable, and the book quality is great. I am not worried about it tearing when she takes it outside. I do wish it had a couple more games for solo play since she doesn't always have someone to play with. That is why I gave it a 4. However, she is creative so I am sure she'll come up with something. I recommend this book to anyone with a child in the 7-12 age range.

I searched for months to figure out a gift for my neighbor's daughter. I wanted to get her something she could do that was not in front of a computer yet did not cost an "arm and a leg". This book is good. You get both the rules and the equipment. You need 3 players or 2 and a stable chair (or something like that). She REALLY likes it. I purchased a second one so that she was able to give it as a gift to her friend. Now; these two girls are teaching others in the neighborhood how to play this age old game.

I used to raid my Mom's 'sewing box' for 6 feet of elastic to play this game in the 60's. Very cool choice for girls in the 7 to 10 age range.

Excellent inexpensive gift.
