If you just want to learn some phrases so you can communicate a few things while in china, then these tapes can help. But if you are seriously studying chinese then don't bother. The majority of the phrases that this teaches aren't even used. You will end up memorizing phrases that don't make sense and have little meaning.

I like these tapes because you can learn common phrases fast. The tapes contain hundreds of phrases. And both the english and the chinese phrases are spoken, so you can also use these tapes to study in the car. A pamphlet that lists all of the phrases on the tapes is also included. But if you want to learn grammer and you like to study by listening to dialogs, then try Barron's Learn Chinese The Fast and Fun Way.

I have used this product for learning basics for both Dutch and Mandarin Chinese. I love it! At first it was tough but it creates the patterns in the brain you need to be able to speak with correct word orders. It also gives you word and sentence inflections.

It is important to use other programs, books etc to acquire vocabulary but this program is a great tool to get started.

Play the audio while biking,driving, walking etc! Listen and repeat it over and over! It is so very important to not expect immediate results! It really works!
