Qigong is one of the most important aspects of traditional Chinese culture and medicine. In recent years, Qigong therapy has attracted more and more attention from modern medicine and science and is now widely applied in clinical settings to treat illness and promote well-being. "Qigong Study in Chinese Medicine" is the first English translation of the only official textbook of medical Qigong, now in its third edition, used in colleges and universities of traditional Chinese medicine in China. Combining the traditional therapies of Qigong with the most recent outcomes of modern scientific research, it provides an authoritative introduction to the knowledge system and contents of Qigong study. This textbook will be a useful tool for medical students and healthcare professionals interested in complementary and alternative therapies as well as for anyone who would like to learn more about the beneficial medical applications of Qigong.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent source of ancient qigong literature and modern scientific research, April 21, 2011

This review is from: Chinese Medical Qigong (Hardcover)
Chinese Medcal Qigong is an excellent source for any serious Qigong practicioner. It is not a 'how to' guide. Instead, it brings together a wealth of ancient Qigong traditions and modern clinical practices with proven scientific research. Not a good book for beginners, unless you are serious about reading over 6oo pages with very little visual images to assist your imagination.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nor enough..., April 8, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Chinese Medical Qigong (Hardcover)
Not enough drawings or photos to explain the movements...
Not enough exemples of forms... Major style of Qigong are not represented : Wudang, Yi Zhi Chan, Sui Xui Jing, Emei and so on...
Not enough exemples of treatment are presented (Only twenty specific diseases !)
Not enough consideration on Qigong theories (San bao - eight extra meridans etc...)
Ressemble too much at a comiplation work of modern Qigong.

A big book without enought food for the mind

2.0 out of 5 stars Limited Information, May 16, 2010
This review is from: Chinese Medical Qigong (Hardcover)
Chinese Medical Qigong is a great overview of the history and present practices in the medical qigong field. For the general public, it gives a lot of information from the Chinese government perspective on the subject of qigong, and therefore quite useful in that manner.

Its weakness is that it does not give enough in depth information about each practice for a practitioner to use as a clinical reference guide when practicing a form or treating patients. The book attempts to be a textbook with curriculum in the area of medical qigong, contrasting and comparing qigong forms at the end of each section. Again, this information is very superficial and limiting. It is a good beginning, and a book to recommend to someone who may have no idea of what qigong is - for the practitioner - it is another among the collection.
