5.0 out of 5 stars The Most In-Depth Text on Medical Qigong's Foundations in Energetic Anatomy and Physiology, October 20, 2009

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Chinese Medical Qigong Therapy Vol.1 Energetic Anatomy and Physiology (Paperback)
I am a student of Medical Qigong and we use all 5 of Professor Johnson's texts in this series. You will find it hard to compare any other book on Medical Qigong because of the depth and breadth of its coverage of this huge area of study. If you ever wanted to know more about qi, the dantians, microcosmic orbits, Five Element Theory and a mountain of other topics that comprise Medical Qigong, this series is it.

This first volume addresses the Foundations of Chinese Energetic Medicine, what is Medical Qigoing and Traditional Chinese Medicine, understanding ancient Chinese metaphysics, Tissue formation and development, Five Energies of the human body, the Taiji Pole and three Dantians, the Eight Extraordinary Vessels, the Six Extraordinary Organs, the Twelve Primary Organs, Channels, and Collaterols, the Connecting Vessels, Divergent Channels, Muscle and Tendon Channels and Skin Zones, and the Body's Energetic Points.

This is no light read, the over 500 pages of Volume 1 delves deeply into each topic with accompanying charts and illustrations.

An amazing body of work, invaluable to us in the West who realize that qi or energy underlies nearly every concept in Chinese culture, whether it be martial arts, painting, poetry, opera, traditional Chinese medicine, etc. After six months of working with these texts I feel like I have barely scratched the surface and I'm ready to dive back in and learn more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent material from a Superb Instructor, July 11, 2009
This review is from: Chinese Medical Qigong Therapy Vol.1 Energetic Anatomy and Physiology (Paperback)
I have known Jerry Alan Johnson since about 1980, while assigned to fort ord, california. Sifu (Teacher) was teaching Baguzhang and a number of other martial arts disciplines, and I was lucky to be a student of his at that time in a basement of a church. Now almost 30 years have passed. Mr Johnson was a great healer back in the day, and has just improved like fine wine over time. His scholarship is over the top, as are his numerous credentials in Chinese medicine, and Chinese martial arts.

His writings have influenced me for many years and made me a better martial artist, and a better healer as well.

The depth and quality of his written works is beyond par, and have NO equal like them in the US, and I would dare say even some asian nations.

Mr Johnson lays out the material in a precise ordered fashion, making his works easy to understand by those with an academic and professional interest alike.

To train with him in person is even more special. He has a way about him that shows just what kind of professional he is. He is patient, kind and
easy to speak with if some material is unclear to you.

I highly recommend his books, videos, and personal training camps on Traditional Chinese Medicine.

This review is from: Chinese Medical Qigong Therapy Vol.1 Energetic Anatomy and Physiology (Paperback)
I'm new to Chinese Medical Qigong and I'm finding everything I need to know to get started in this amazing field. This book is incredibly well-organized and builds patiently builds upon concepts, though each section is a complete unit. You could pick up this book and start reading from the middle and still understand it, but the book as a whole is a complete work.
