How to Read the Chinese Novel (Princeton Library of Asian Translations)

~~~This book is a disappointing read.... Confusedly edited and organized, with broad themes not lucidly sketched out.
I studied Chinese philosophy, not literature, at the graduate level and expected to dive into this book with pleasure, to add important perspective to my knowledge of Chinese cultural history.

I was disappointed by the ill-considered organization of the book and some real scholarly omissions and misperceptions. The editor seemed not to have approached the book with gusto and~~~~ enthusiasm that would have helped to bring the book's message to life with clarity.

Perhaps future books by this editor will build on his experience in putting together this book and will create a book or essay that's a little better as a landmark to one of the great cultural traditions of the world. Chinese literary tradition is often difficult to approach for an English speaker. Unfortunately, this book doesn't do the job in bringing this brilliant cultural universe into warm, living~~ perspective &~~ color. A real missed opportunity; the title of the book is squandered.~~~
