5.0 out of 5 stars Great Plot, April 11, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Chinese Odyssey Part Two: Cinderella (DVD)
If you haven't heard of the story since childhood, you wouldn't know what I mean when I say it has great plot. Though the beginning of the 2nd movie doesn't match the ending of the 1st movie at all, the 2nd one outperforms the 1st one in plot though is weakened in comedy. But the idea of time travel and the ending are good. After the first time I finished watching this movie 5 years ago, I couldn't speak for hours but to think about the movie. It gives you the feeling you get after you watch the Sixth Sense but it's totally different

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as part 1, but still worth watching, September 2, 2007
After being transported back in time 500 years Stephen Chow is given a certain mark on his foot by an Immortal woman. She is a very nice lady, but her sister also lives in her body. So while she is nice in the daytime, her evil sister is the one who lives in her body at night. Stephen Chow falls in love with her. Honestly I couldn't follow the story very well. The Longevity Monk is trying to get Chow to become the Monkey King but Chow has to decide which of 2 women he loves first.

Luckily there is plenty of comedy and some good action too. After struggling to follow the convoluted plot all the way through parts 1 and 2, I was glad that I stuck around for the end. I probably would have liked the movie more if Chow spent more time dressed as the Monkey King.

3/5

4.0 out of 5 stars Novel Twist to a Classic!, January 25, 2005
This review is from: Chinese Odyssey Part Two: Cinderella (DVD)
I¡¯ve seen Chinese Odyssey many times, because it¡¯s just so funny! Chinese Odyssey is not really a remake of the Chinese classic, Journey to the West, but it¡¯s more of a parody, or a side story based on the Monkey King.

The second part starts off with Monkey King (Stephen Chow) who is now 500 years back in the past due to a malfunction of Pandora¡¯s Box. Here, he meets with Fairy Zixia (Athena Chu) and got involved romantically with her, although initially, he wasn¡¯t too fond of her. It¡¯s also as funny as part one, and Wukong¡¯s super long-winded and naggy master, Tripitika (Law Kar-Ying), also provides more laughs here. My fave moment in part two has to be the super hilarious ¡°Only You¡± version sang by Tripitika!

There¡¯re plenty of twists and turns that are really different from the original story, which is good since it doesn¡¯t get boring even if you already know the story of the Monkey King. However, a minus is that you¡¯ll need to know the story of the Monkey King to be able to appreciate and laugh at some of the jokes aimed at the original story, but if you don¡¯t, there¡¯re still plenty of comical parts around to keep you laughing. The funny parts may be rather silly at times, but go ahead and laugh at their silliness. Afterall, Stephen Chow is known to be the King of Comedy. :)

Part two has a stronger romance theme than part 1, and the ending is kind of romantic and nice, albeit a little sad. Chinese Odyssey comes in two parts, so you¡¯ll need to watch part 1 as well to be able to fully understand the entire movie. If you¡¯re into Chinese mythology and culture, give this a try and take the time to enjoy this show!
