An Excellent Guide & Reference Book On Chinese Snuff Bottles,
By
This review is from: Chinese Snuff Bottles (Hardcover)
Lilla Perry was well acquainted with all the major snuff bottle collectors of her time. In her book she was able to relay her vast experiences in a very easy to read manner. Through her illustrations and numerous color photographs a collector can easily follow a path to making the right decisions in recognizing good Chinese snuff bottles. The book is written not only for the beginner but is also very helpful to the avid collector. It was the very first book I read on the subject and it helped me to become an avid collector and purveyor of Chinese snuff bottles. It proved to be so popular that it has enjoyed many printings since the 1960 original. Obviously I highly recommend the book to anyone with an interest in or even avid collectors of snuff bottles. Have a nice day and happy reading

The "Little Bible" of Chinese Snuff bottles.,
By
This review is from: Chinese Snuff Bottles: The Adventures & Studies of a Collector (Hardcover)
This was one of the earliest book that I had read on Chinese snuff bottles. I had picked it up from a local library and this happened to be one of the few books which I have read completely.:) Immediately, I decided to buy a used copy of this book for myself from Amazon or Half.com (I don't remember..) and I had this book in my possession very soon.
Lilla has rightly described her various purusits for quality snuff bottles as an adventure. The book is a highly informative work on chinese Snuff bottles sprinkled with Lilla's great antecedotes about how she acquired some of her beautiful bottles. Her keen sense of decision making about snuff bottles can be learnt by onself by reading about her analysis and judgement, that she employs when acquiring a bottle. She has explained in detail, about various kinds of snuff bottle - jade, agate, bamboo, hornbill, inside painted etc. Overall, I would say, even if you aren't into collecting snuff bottles, this book surely will leave a lingering good feeling and impression about Lilla in your minds, that you would wish you knew her personally. :) And, you might also end up becoming the next snuff bottle collector! |
