This is the third book cataloging the snuff box collection of Denis Low. He has around 1300 snuff bottles in toto; this book describes 355 examples. Given that currently a fine snuff bottle (often of Imperial provenance) will attract an auction price in the vague vicinity of $15,000-30,000, this collection would be worth a fair penny.
Hats off to Mr Low, a retired venture capitalist, for this beautifully produced catalogue. He has not only written all the annotations of the pieces but has also been involved in the all important photography. I am pleased to report that the images are very clear and the often difficult to visualize smaller details on the bottles are easily able to be appreciated. The quality of the snuff bottles are high, with a reasonable amount of them having an Imperial provenance or connection.
While I have a number of books on snuff bottles, this would be the best. My judgement would be in regard to printing quality and selection of bottles. The book is admittedly expensively priced though much cheaper than buying the real thing! Go for it if you have the funds.
