Book Description

"Chinese New Year for Kids" is a full color paperback book with beautiful, authentic Chinese illustrations. This is a hands-on workbook for parents and teachers, written for children from ages 3 to 12 years old, for use in the classroom or at home. Children will enjoy the party ideas, dragon parades, lion dances, art projects, and zodiac games. The art projects are designed to be easy, as well as inexpensive to reproduce for large groups. All the activities in this book have been thoroughly tested in the classroom, with very successful results, and have elicited lots of enthusiasm from children and teachers alike. Music, physical movement, art, and food all add to the ambiance of taking an imaginary trip to China during the Chinese New Year.

About the Author

Cindy Roberts has a Graphic Arts Degree from the University of Kansas. Besides 18 years of designing, she has been a mother for 13 years constantly enriching her children's education and developing her own summer home schooling curriculum. Learning about other cultures is her obvious favorite! In 1997, Cindy and her husband Tom adopted 3 older children from Asia. In an effort to keep their new children's culture, Cindy started searching for Chinese New Year materials to share in her children's classrooms. Not finding the classroom projects she was searching for, Cindy started developing her own Chinese New Year curriculum. For the past three years, Cindy has taught classes about the Chinese New Year to children at Colorado Heritage Camp, and this year was invited back to be a guest speaker. Cindy Roberts has written two wonderful adoption books for children called "Danielle Where Are You?" and "Dear Sam & Dani." The author lives in Southern California with her husband, 6! kids, and many furry critters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chinese New Year For Kids, December 19, 2002
This review is from: Chinese New Year For Kids (Paperback)
I am always looking for books and activities about Chinese New Year for my daughters' teachers. This book has made that task much easier. The historical explanation of Chinese New Year is simple and straight forward. The ideas for parties both at school and at home are great! The directions for craft projects, snacks, and games are clearly described. The illustrations are playful and colorful. This is a wonderful book for parents and teachers who need help with ideas to celebrate Chinese New Year.

This is a beautiful book.
We found it very informative.
In fact I gave it to my children's Chinese Teacher today as a New Year;s gift and she used it to teach the class abit about Chinese New Years.
I am now ordering another one for our family as I know my kids will miss the one we gave to our teacher.
The book describes several ceremonies, traditions and history of the Chinese New Year with lots of hands-on activities.
Well done!

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple, colorful, January 22, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Chinese New Year For Kids (Paperback)
A pretty basic book. As an adoptive family with Chinese children we needed some very basic Chinese New Year books for our little ones. This was that - simple, short, and with very very basic activity ideas. The activities are very basic - " serve Asian rice and egg rolls". I guess it's more focused on Activities
at school. The pics are colorful though and the dragons are not scary like in some books for older kids. None the less - it's a good book to add to our coffee table collection for the Chinese New Year time.
