Product Description

Chinese character writing is a highly evolved discipline that relies as much on artistic craftsmanship, as it does on literary composition. Our basic writing set comes with two brushes, a black ink stick, ink stone and red ink for the "chop" or signature stamp. The ink is made by gently rubbing the ink stick in a small pool of water in the ink stone. This ancient method allows for very little waste. The same bushes and inks may be used both for writing and painting, as the two art forms are so closely linked. Our writing set comes from Shanghai, the literary capital of China. Also available on Amazon from REORIENT, is the traditional rice paper used for painting and writing.

The brushes and everything else are super tiny, only a child's hand can hold those. Not a good set at all. Rather just go to micheal's art store and get the sumi set there. Just stay away from this set, unless you you buy this as a gift for your 3 years old child.

It has everything I needed for my daughter and I to start learning Chinese writing. The chop is made of real stone and our teacher says this is a perfect example of what you need to learn Chinese writing. This is a great way for us to learn about her birth culture.

This item comes in a very nice case and has great presentation. It is perfect for a "beginning" calligraphy student. My 11 year old son loves his set and was very happy with the items included. If you are looking for something more advanced you would want something with a little finer brushes. I would buy this item again for a child.
