Product Description

Our Celadon mini tea set is fun curio collectable or children's gift. The tea pot is crafted in the shape of a pumpkin and the tray as a leaf. The four cups are each shaped like tiny gourds cut in half. In China gourds, like pumpkins or calabash, have an association with health and long life. Chinese legend holds that the source of the Yellow river is a calabash gourd. And in Feng Shui the calabash is thought to absorb negative chi, thus promoting health. In the ancient Orient, gourds were used as vessels for medicines, and the symbolism persists even today. Our pumpkin tea set is made of Celadon, which refers to the pale green glaze of the ancient Chinese stoneware. Celadon originated in China, but it is produced throughout Asia. Each country has its own unique shade, due to slight differences in the clays, materials and techniques used to create the distinguishing green. While ancient porcelains found in China are unglazed, Celadon is perhaps the earliest example of glazed porcelain in the world. It was first used for utilitarian cups and bowls, but soon lent itself to decoration. As Celadon is technically stoneware, a dense clay ceramic, it is durable and naturally dishwasher and microwave safe. Reorient has a full line of decorative Celadon vases, planters and interesting curios. Dinnerware is also available. The character and quality of each item is consistent with 19th century craftsmanship and will lend a mystique of the old Orient to your home.

I found the miniature tea set from this company, Reorient, to be of great quality and design. The price was lower than the competitors without impacting the overall look. I purchased this set as an accessory piece for a kimono fit for an American Doll Girl. Now everyone is enjoying "tea," including Mom!
