5.0 out of 5 stars A great version of the I Ching

3.0 out of 5 stars Who is Wu Wei?
Wu Wei is the pen name of Chris Prentiss who is controversial in the addiction recovery industry. He owns Power Press, the publisher of this I Ching book. Go to www.biroco.com for a review of this book. I read part of the book and thought it was pretty good.

If you're facing a tricky situation and you're not sure what to do, or you just need guidance or confirmation of your inner promptings, I definitely suggest using this practical and profound book to get the guidance you need. It's much easier to understand and apply than many other versions I've looked at. And the cover design is gorgeous.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yarrow sticks and probability. . ., October 21, 2007
By
Bethe (Maine, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The I Ching: The Book of Changes and How to Use It (Paperback)
Wu Wei appeals to me so much because he is an artist and values learning that comes through the hands. This book includes one of the few explanations I've found for why the yarrow stick method produces a mathematically different "chance" result from the coin toss method. I was inspired enough to go out and harvest my own wild yarrow and cut it into sticks. This ancient Chinese plant actually grows in Maine! Wu Wei's explanation of how to use the sticks is easy to understand and quickly learned. The yarrow stick method produces a kind of indwelling that I have not experienced with coin tossing. It has an earthiness to it that is beautifully complimented by Wu Wei's text.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wisdom from over 6,000 years ago, May 2, 2005
I just finished reading The I Ching: The Book of Answers and was most impressed with the author's insightful interpretations of the I Ching's sixty-four hexagrams. The origins of this timeless classic of universal wisdom are thought to date back more than 6,000 years to the great sage Fu Hsi. The I Ching lies at the root of both Confucian and Taoist philosophies. Wu Wei provides perfectly clear, unambiguous direction while remaining completely true to the ancient writings. This newly revised and expanded edition of Wu Wei's classic is unparalleled in its clarity, making this the easiest-to-grasp I Ching on the market. The cover design and packaging with french flaps make this easily the most attractive I Ching available and I'll be giving this to friends as gifts. This is a totally different book from the author's earlier edition and is a delight to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent American version of the I Ching, November 11, 2009

I have had other translations of the I Ching, going back to my hippie days (now 35+ years ago). I never "got" it before. The instructions and overview sections are crystal-clear. I bought the yarrow stalks as recommended (it's slightly cheaper to buy the book + yarrow stalks separately then to buy the "gift" set). I used the yarrow stalk method as instructed. I have asked 2 questions so far, and I have to say the correspondance between the "answers" and my questions and subsequent actions is 100%. I will continue to consult it. I am thankful to Wu Wei (Chris Prentiss who also does praiseworthy work with addiction) for his efforts here. I guess his son Pax helped with the translations too, so I am thankful to him as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars ''The i-ching'', April 5, 2010

''The i-ching''
Wu Wei's book of answers Is a very explicit, practical and quick guide to consult at any moment.
Wu Wei has compelled a new explanation of the deep wisdom of Fu Xsi's apocalyptical inspiration of the ''i-ching'' that is quite easy for westerners readers and seekers of Light in the darkness of this Samsara world.
A great companion indeed that offers the possibility to resolve or avoid any problems of every day life.
Thanks Wu Wei !
Aina

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice little I Ching, July 11, 2010
Although a bit too moralistic in some spots, this is a very good modern translation of the I Ching. It has the added benefit of a hinged jacket so that you don't have to worry about cracking the spine everytime you refer to a specific judgment.

3.0 out of 5 stars No Table of Contents, April 26, 2011
By
The problem I have with this has nothing to do with Wu Wei. It has to do with the fact that there is no table of contents. Wei tells stories about people's life long experiences with the I-Ching in this book. This is not a book that has a table of contents for each hexagram so that one could conveniently flip to a certain number and receive Wei's interpretation of that hexagram, which is the kindle book I was looking for. The fact that the I-Ching needs a table of contents ought to be obvious to kindle edition publishers.
