The best ever I-Ching,
By "acuguy" (Los Angeles, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Ching: The Book of Changes and the Unchanging Truth (Hardcover)
This is really two books in one. The first 200 pages or so gives a great deal of information on the traditional Taoist astrology and numerology that underlies the I-Ching. As valuable as this information is, it is the translation of the I-Ching itself where this work really shines. It is evident the author has a deep understanding of both the meaning of this text and the culture form which this teaching arose. In several instances the author gives facinating insites on ancient Chinese life and culture while explaining the meaning of the hexagrams. A great contirbution to the world's understanding of this classic text. A must for all readers from casual to scholars.

The Book of Changes & the Unchanging Truth,
By A Customer
This review is from: I Ching: The Book of Changes and the Unchanging Truth (Hardcover)
This book is a must for anyone who is looking for spiritual guidance. Master Ni (Hua Ching Ni) offers the reader straight-forward descriptions of I Ching concepts, along with many other related topics. He explains how the I Ching and nature are connected. His perception of the I Ching hexagrams contains the same gentle wisdom that comes forth in all of his books. He brings the I Ching principles to life by giving us realistic guidelines for daily living, using his experiential knowledge of ancient traditions passed down to him through generations of spiritual masters.

Most helpful "I Ching",

for me right now. And has been for the last 8 years. I refer to others sometimes (whether Cleary, or the Kuan Yin versions, LeGuin's is fun, Wing's workbook amazing, and the seminal but difficult to interpret translation by Legge). And have been intrigued by Karcher's when I've browsed in the bookstore, also recommended by one of my teachers.
This one always speaks to me when I consult it, or simply study it. And the introduction to chinese cosmology in the first section is so well written and an excellent introduction for beginners. I'd recommend that beginners browse through the many books offered out there. This one came highly reommended by my teachers, and I continue to use it. Find one (or preferably several) that speak to "you". We all have our own path in the Tao to follow, pick your guide with your teacher or you own intuition.

Michael Frann,
This review is from: I Ching: The Book of Changes and the Unchanging Truth (Hardcover)
Over the years I have acquired a high number of I Ching translations. This volume involves hundreds of pages of backgroung data associated with oriental mysticism. The explanations and diagrams illustrating the celestial stems and branches in and of themselves are sufficient to render this volume unique in caliber and worthy of extreme contemplation.

A Prolific I-Ching,
By O. Marie "Stargoddess7" (Seattle) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Ching: The Book of Changes and the Unchanging Truth (Hardcover)
This I-Ching is prolific and loaded with all kinds of guidance, instruction, anecdotes and supernatural wisdom. I've used Master Ni's I-Ching for 9 years now. It has comforted and carried me through a crippling illness, and taken me out to the other side of healing. It has been a friend in place of other human beings and shown me how to protect myself from further psychic attack. Without it, my spirit would have perished. I continue to be amazed at some of the topics he touches, issues and concerns which are not found in most I-Ching books. Master Ni is a traditional writer, also referencing Tai Chi, our relationships to animals, nature, the stars and spirits. He gives a good background on the origin of the I-Ching. The first edition of this book goes back to 1983. I use a few varying editions of the I-Ching by Stephen Karcher, yet I also love to return to this book for the additional meditations, guidance and anecdotes. This book is a beautiful gift for the spiritual seeker.

A "must-read" for anyone interested in learning more about or practicing divination with the I Ching,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Ching: The Book of Changes and the Unchanging Truth (Hardcover)
I Ching The Book of Changes and The Unchanging Truth is an in-depth instructional guide to the ancient philosophical and divination system that has been used by the Chinese for nearly 5,000 years. Author, teacher and physician Hua-Ching Ni presents much more than a manual for how to use the hexagrams of I Ching; The Book of Changes and The Unchanging Truth teaches the reader about the fundamental principles of the system. From Yin/Yang theory, to the Five Phases of Energy, to the Natural Calendar, the Constellations, Heavenly and Earthly cycles, and much more, The Book of Changes and The Unchanging Truth explains ideas expressed by ancient scholars such as Confucius in plain terms. A "must-read" for anyone interested in learning more about or practicing divination with the I Ching.

This is one of the best I Chings I know. Beautifully written, it has a tone, that relaxes the moment you start to read.Interesting introduction. Wise stories woven between the hexagrams: very uplifting.

The previous reviewer is spot on.
Thomas Cleary is paramount in his translations of the taoist canon. I find this translation of the I Ching by Master Ni Hua-Ching to be most meaningful p "Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing" -- Helen Keller
