5.0 out of 5 stars How to walk the talk, November 16, 2001

This review is from: Chinook Book: Portland/Vancouver Metro 2002 (Paperback)
If you live in a house, buy a Chinook Book. If you go frequent the grocery store, buy a Chinook Book. If you have kids, buy a Chinook Book. And if you're interested in actually living like the environmentally conscious person you think you are, then you really need to CHECK THIS BOOK OUT.

I don't usually write reviews, but this slender little volume is a deserving one. It's 50% environmental/consumer education and 50% coupons to local businesses that support green products and sustainable practices. It shows you how to make good choices in your local marketplace. Where to find the green businesses that share your values. And why it's not better to leave a fluorescent light on (rather than turning it off and on again). There's a lot in there about what we can all do to consume intelligently, and plenty of exploded "oh, really?" myths about electricity, efficiency, food and chemical products, too. That doesn't sound sexy on paper, but when you realize what a difference one simple change can make, it is.

My compliments and wholehearted thanks to the people who wrote this book, and a humble request that they bring the Chinook Book to San Francisco. We could use your help down here, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chinook Book -its about time, October 26, 2001

Thank God for Chinook Book! This expertly designed book contains tons of great coupons from businesses that support sustainable consumerism. We're talking a 2 for 1 Amtrak ticket to points all the way up to Vacouver, Canada; 50% off on Native plants at Drakes; 2 for 1 at Yoga Union; 2 for 1 ice cream cone from Ben and Jerrys...and the list goes on -not to mention the helpful tips and information on everything from conservation to composting. Chinook Book makes any other coupon book pale drastically in comparison.

And how did I find out about this book? One of the kids in the neighborhood was selling it as a fundraiser for their school! Never again do I have to battle the wayward pleadings to buy senseless wrapping paper and bad chocolate to support the schools! Cool book put together by a cool company, the Celilo Group. And already I've paid for the book with the coupons I've used.
