This is not your backpacking rainfly! The bag it comes in measures 24 inches x 8 inches. I did not weight it but it must be close to the 4 pounds it ships at. Would be great for car camping and to cover a few hammocks or tents at one time. The corners and center have the loop tieouts, but there are grommets for the other six tieouts which are set into double material. I would have liked to see all looped sewn tieouts as pictured. There are two seams which are taped as well as the center loop. You could hang this from the center loop over branch and make a fair size teepee tent. 14x12 is huge! you would easily be able to make this into a full tent with floor if needed. not a bad tarp at all if that is what your looking for.

Good guy holes, easy to use, and help up well in a sudden thunderstom. I used this at Lake Powell for a week, Covering my hammock set up, and it performed when I needed it to. 2am thunderstorm with sudden downpour, and I just laid back in my hammock under the tarp and enjoyed the show (well, until I realized that the rest of my party was getting soaked, then I had to jump out of bed and help put stuff in tents). A little on the pricey side, but I expect it to be well worth the money for a long time. I
ll see if I can't get a picture up.

I have been looking for an affordable winter hammock tarp for a while now and this was the one for me. It was perfectly priced about 50 bucks and the 9.5x12 worked like a dream when some of us set out on a snow backpacking trip last weekend.
This Tarp was just what i wanted, 50 dollars, centenary cut, and grommets placed in the right spots for the "doors" to be closed on this shelter if you wish.
I set this up last weekend in the snow with my hammock and I only hung about 8 inches off the ground- it was perfect. This shelter is enough for the winter and has the features you would want- and will be amazing when I can open it up more in the spring and summer months.
It is plenty lightweight and small- much lighter and MUCH smaller than a regular POLY tarp from wally world.
I would definitely recommend this to another hammock hanger who wants a very versatile tarp- will probably use an even smaller diamond shaped tarp in the summer months though.

Update: 2 of my other friends are ordering this tarp after seeing mine- it is holding up great

I'm not saying that all Chinook tarps are bad but the one that I got isn't worth carrying into the woods. The second time I put it up (the first was in my backyard to check it out when I got it) was over my hammock in Quetico Provincial Park...it got rained on 3 times during my week there and leaked all three times. Mine sticks together horribly when folded up but not sure if that is why it leaks - I was thinking that perhaps the waterproofing wasn't applied correctly. Unfortunately it's past the window of time that I could return it or this joker wouldn't be anywhere near my camping stuff but I guess I'm stuck with a $50 12 x 9.6 sun shade.

An Update: After contacting a very understanding Chinook representative and a few emails back and forth, I received a new tarp! I have not had a chance to try it out yet but I am hopeful about this one. It doesn't stick together and it looks like the seams are sealed better than the last one. Perhaps I got a bad one the first time. I plan on updating as soon as I have tried it out. A+ rating on Chinook's customer service though! I'll give them an extra star for that!

Camping in the northwest means rain. And mother nature had a great time testing out this tarp for us on our first camping trip of the year. Even straight out of the bag, it was completely waterproof. Super lightweight and compact. the bag it came in turned out to be water proof too....so when we were packing up, we just gave the tarp a good shakeout and then bundled it into its own bag for the trip home. Nothing it was laying on got wet...well...any wetter than it already was.

Very lightweight waterproof tarp, seams and grommets look strong. It uses small grommets so a simple knot in paracord puts pressure on entire grommet rather than tying around or hooking through putting pressure only on one side. Also I didn't need center tie in the middle of tarp but in the future I can see it being useful for ridge line alternatives. Used for five days in the rainforest appreciated light weight and small grommets as well as the fact it didn't leak.
