The Chip Carving video with Wayne Barton is photographed well, and Wayne clearly demonstrates the basic chip carving cuts, then follows those with clear examples of numerous carving styles and techniques. He explains each well, and the demonstrations show how each style is done, along with the finished product. A good video for learning what can be accomplished with chip carving; I'd highly recommend if you're interested in learning more about it and how to do it.

I found this DVD to be an excellent introduction to the craft of chip carving. Instructions and demonstrations are clear, concise and very well photographed.

I bought the book years ago and was having trouble getting the technique down. After seeing video clips online I decided to buy the DVD. This makes it so much easier to understand and I am very happy with this purchase.

I had lost my previous copy of this DVD and needed another. It came quickly and was just what I ordered.

I was attracted to chip carving via website while looking at other woodworking information. I had to try it. I bought books and the DVD by Mr. Barton because his work is stunning. All are incredibly helpful. I found being able to see the techniques in action in addition to the photographs and written decsriptions in the books allowed me to get results fairly quickly. (Admittedly not as good as Mr. Barton's). Tips for avoiding common problems are also provided allowing me to improve more rapidly. Mr. Barton's instructions are clear. (In his books he even arranges for a right handed carver to pose the pictures since he is left handed. Of course, if you are a lefty that may not help.) He covers holding the knives, basic cuts and techniques. He demonstrates all basic forms including some classic border designs, rosettes, and lettering. After looking through the books and watching the DVD, my father, an experienced woodworker, was interested too. He liked the DVD so much I decided to send him one as a gift. I personally prefer Wayne Barton's teaching materials to those of Dennis Moor (which my father got and I read) though both are excellent and that is probably a matter of personal taste rather than quality. Since I am a beginner I can't say if this DVD is helpful to experienced carvers, but it certainly helped me and is very interesting and inspiring to watch.

As all his other books on chip carving, this one teaches more about the craft.

Excellent instructional video for novices like me. Plenty of detail on techniques of setup and carving. Even though my first attempts at duplicating the skillful strokes of Mr. Barton have been quite humbling, I recommend this DVD to see exactly how it's done by a pro.

My grandson is using this gift to learn how to chip carve. No complaints from him yet.
