K-Gr. 1. Kim and Dad are lonely when they move from their farm to a new house in the city. Then their dog, Chip, escapes, and as Kim and Dad search for him, neighbors join in. By the time Chip is found safe and sound, waiting on the front steps, Kim and Dad have found new friends in their fellow searchers. Cheerful, bright pictures in cherry reds and lime greens extend the action in the skillfully simple, well-paced story, and the type and images are nicely balanced against plenty of white space, making it easy to follow the words. Younger children will probably need help with the appended activities, which include a list of questions about friendship, but this Green Light Readers book offers a warm, accessible story about a situation and feelings kids will know. Kim is new to the neighborhood and misses her old home. She and her dad decide to take their dog Chip for a walk to see if that will cheer Kim up. On the walk Chip runs away. Kim is so sad. While looking for her dog she meets lots of new neighbors and they all become friends.
The book was quick and easy to read. Young readers will enjoy the cute illustrations. This is also a great story for kids who enjoy reading about dogs.
I would recommend this book to kids 5-8. It is part of the "Green Light Reader" series. It also included fun activities and questions to ask after reading.

This story is about a young Asian girl named Kim, her dad and her dog. They had just moved from the country to the city. Kim has not met any new friends. But that is about to change when Kim and her dad decide to take Chip for a walk. Before Kim can attach the leash Chip is off and running. While looking for Chip Kim makes friends with the hot dog man, a woman park worker and Mr. Sanchez.

This book also has a Think about it page where they ask 4 questions about the book. Also included in the book is a Make a friend paper plate art project. And on the very last page is about the Green Light Reader series and 5 tips to help your child become a great reader.

This book says that it is for ages 5 - 7 and for 1st and 2nd grade. It also mentions it is a Guided Reading Level: I - J and Reading Recovery Level 16.
