great boot , needs no break in, fits great, looks great
Now, I did do two things to this boot that I think everyone should.
In the winter I will remove the pad and wear a heavy (read warm and thick) sock.

The quality of this boot is excellent. In fact, I believe this to be the finest boot I've ever purchased and I've always worn high-end boots. The stitching is perfect and the leather had absolutely no imperfections. I'm sure I'll wear out the sole and have it replaced more than once before the leather gives out.

I was able to wear a thick wool sock from Smartwool with this boot without feeling like my foot was crowded. The arch support could not have been better and the Vibram sole offers lots of cushion. I can walk almost silently in these on both wood and concrete as well as gravel. I think this will be a great hunting boot.

Now, I did do two things to this boot that I think everyone should. I used a hair dryer to heat up the boot so I could apply Sno-Seal waterproofing compound. I used Sno-Seal because it works great and it doesn't soften the leather like most oils will. Think about it for a minute - Do you really want to add a leather softening product to the leather that protects you from snake fangs. NO! So please, use Sno-Seal and you'll be very happy. This pair of boots soaked up half of a brand new 7oz. can of Sno-Seal so I should be pretty much waterproof now.

The other thing I did was take a jar of pure bees wax and melt it in a pot of water on low heat. I then take a small paint brush and put the melted wax on the zipper. When the wax cools, which happens very quickly, I open and close the zipper several times to distribute the wax on all the zipper parts. To clean up the excess I use a hair dryer to melt the wax and wipe it off with a towel. Don't use paper towels - they make a terrible mess and you'll be sorry.

With the addition of Sno-Seal and bees wax on the zippers these boots really can't get much better. They are extremely well made right here in the USA and should give many years of service.

Great boots.Super comfortable. Minimal breaking time.
Easy the put on they have a Velcro covered zipper in the back.
They run about a size large. Don't order the same size as your running shoe. Order a size smaller.

They are great for those with larger calves also.
    2E fits like a 3E also.

First boot that has fit my son 14EE who usually wears a size 15-16 tennis shoe! Beautiful leather that stretches to fit.

I loved the boots, they fit well, are comfortable to walk in, and are roomy enough in the calf (at least for me, as I've thin shanks) for me to tuck in my pants if I wish. The only thing that I don't like is that, on my left boot, along the upper crease where one's ankle bends, on the inside of the boot, there is a very hard fold that hurts the top of my foot like the devil when putting the boot on. Once it is on, I can't feel it.

So I am in the process of heating it up a bit and rubbing some goose tallow on that inner fold to soften the leather; then I will try and rub that fold until it softens or at least flattens until it doesn't hurt my foot when putting on or removing the boot.

If not for that inconvenience, I'd easily give it five stars.

I've been wearing this model of boot for years. They offer effective snake protection and comfort and safety while hiking, fishing, and hunting in the woods. I also wear them around the house and in my vegetable garden since the Vibram soles do not track dirt and debris into the house. Furthermore, I enjoy wearing them in public because they clean up and shine nicely after only a little care.

After much research, I came to the conclusion Chippewa would make one of the best snake boots on the market. I purchased a pair of # 23922 boots, size 9.5 and the right boot fit great. I could not, however, get the left boot on my foot. There was a fold of leather inside the boot just under where the buckle rides. This extra thickness feels to be about 1/4 inch thick, which not only prevented my foot from fitting inside the boot but it would have been EXTREMELY uncomfortable had I been able to get it on. I cannot understand how any craftsman was this careless. Further more, I cannot understand how any inspector could have missed this. In every other regard, both boots appear to be quality but what good is that with this one giant flaw.

Can be corrected with a heavier sock. Great quality at a good price. You get what you pay for in my opinion.
