Format: Hardcover
All the family members contribute to life in their Kenyan village. Chirchir wants to help too. She sings away as she attempts to boil chai tea, help make the mud floor, and harvest potatoes. Her clumsiness and inexperience get her passed on from one exasperated relative to another. Can Chirchir find a way to help her family, or will her cheerful voice be silenced by gloom?

This is a beautiful story, simply yet evocatively illustrated. The setting is exotic, yet the storyline is one that any young kid can relate to. I give it four stars only because the author's literary word choice, while vibrant, is a little distancing to young ears.

This is a great book. Our kids loved it. This books reads like the author lives in Africa and knows the native culture.
