5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Self-Help Book!
Dr. Homola's latest book is expertly written, clear and concise, and is a wonderful reference self-help book for people like me. The more of the book I read, the more I say to myself that the author is talking to me, about me. I will seek out the self-help remedies described in this book when I have aches and pains.

This is a very strange book, which is why I am skeptical as to the merits of it. It's very curious that the positive, upbeat description seems to be different than the actual book itself.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Self-Help Book!, August 25, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Chiropractor's Self-Help Back and Body Book: Your Complete Guide to Relieving Aches and Pains at Home and on the Job (Paperback)
Dr. Homola's latest book is expertly written, clear and concise, and is a wonderful reference self-help book for people like me. The more of the book I read, the more I say to myself that the author is talking to me, about me. I will seek out the self-help remedies described in this book when I have aches and pains.

I started out reading at whim and then realized that I should read in chapter order, as I did in school. As a result, the book is all highlighted in yellow and underlined in blue ink for quick reference.

I especially liked Chapters 13 and 14. Dr. Homola was such a support and a great help to my daughter when she was suffering with a herniated disc and sought his opinion and advice. It has now been a year since her disc herniation, and she is doing fine.

I got worried for a minute when Dr. Homola described in great detail how to make an ice pack. I was going to ask about frozen peas -and then they appeared! I've used them often and successfully. His book leaves nothing out and is complete in every detail. The Glossary is very useful. I was glad to see proper definitions for all the M.D. specialties as well as definitions of straight and mixed chiropractic along with descriptions of what is good and what is bad in chiropractic -which I never knew.

I will certainly recommend this book to my friends. Dr. Homola has written some mighty fine books -and now this one, which is one of the most useful I have read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Friendly and easy to understand, May 6, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Chiropractor's Self-Help Back and Body Book: Your Complete Guide to Relieving Aches and Pains at Home and on the Job (Paperback)
I found Dr. Homola's book reader friendly and easy to understand. His book really helped me understand what is causing my back pain and what to do about it. There is a wealth of information on how to recognize and treat all kinds of aches and pains. He tells you how to help yourself and when you should see a doctor.

I'd recommend this book for anyone who wants a real self-help guide that explains the problem and then offers good advice or an effective remedy. I keep this book handy for quick reference when any member of my family has a back or body problem. I wouldn't be without it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sound advice, especially when you are hurting!, August 31, 2003

This review is from: The Chiropractor's Self-Help Back and Body Book: Your Complete Guide to Relieving Aches and Pains at Home and on the Job (Paperback)
Last year I had a back injury that left me immobile for two months. During that time I read four back books to "empower" me with knowledge and tips for recovery. Dr. Homola's book (now with post-it-notes stuck in numerous chapters) was the most helpful. From helping to determine causes of pain, to outlining simple excercises you can do without buying expensive equipment, this book was the only one I really needed to read. It's a book I'll keep on hand as a helpful resource for years to come.

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT RECOMMENDED - JUST ANOTHER BACK BOOK, March 15, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Chiropractor's Self-Help Back and Body Book: Your Complete Guide to Relieving Aches and Pains at Home and on the Job (Paperback)
This is a very strange book, which is why I am skeptical as to the merits of it. It's very curious that the positive, upbeat description seems to be different than the actual book itself.

Even though I can't recommend this book for the reasons listed below, I agree with Dr. Homola that safe, natural remedies are in great demand and Chiropractic is the recognized leader in these. Strangely, Dr. Holoma's writing style seems to discourage the use of "safe, natural remedies" more than he encourages them. He curiously seems to have an overall negative tone about these.

I commend Dr. Holoma for writing a book, to give the general public more information. I find it very bizarre, that even though the title is "Self-Help" it lacks much of the more practical and useful information found in many other less expensive books.

With over 300 pages of anatomy (and brain tumors!) the exercises, in my opinion, are too time-consuming for the average person who is already very busy. They could have been presented in a more logical, user-friendly fashion. I don't think it's what the average person needs nor wants. My eyes glazed over after 15 pages! Certainly NOT "reader-friendly".

This information, I have found, can be easily obtained by walking into any Chiropractic Doctor's office and requesting some information like a pamphlet or booklet of simple and quick home-care exercises and health care tips for the busy person.

Bottom line: Not worth it. Save your money and time and avoid this book unless you are looking for a sure cure for insomnia. If you want useful books, check out other much more interesting, complete and practical ones like:

5.0 out of 5 stars The Chiropractor's Complete Self-Help Back and Body Book:, April 25, 2003
This review is from: The Chiropractor's Self-Help Back and Body Book: Your Complete Guide to Relieving Aches and Pains at Home and on the Job (Paperback)
I found Dr. Homola's book to be very beneficial. His straight forward approach to problems and cures was refreshing. Having been in the care of many chiropractors over the years, its an eye opener to read some practical ways to lead one to better health. The only people that would have a harsh opinion about this book are those with an ulterior motive or who do not understand that a simple way of helping people to better health is the best way.

I found this book very informative and have reccomended it to several others. When my herniated disk was causing lots of pain, I was desperate to get some relief. I just happened to find a reference to the author somewhere on the internet and even actually called him. He was very gracious to talk to me, shared some advice and kept me from making a very expensive decision concerning chiropractic care for my entire family. His book is straightforward and understandable. I thank him for the words of advice and his expertice, if your back is giving you trouble in any way, you'll find this book to be quite an interesting read. Thanks Mr. Homola!

This review is from: The Chiropractor's Self-Help Back and Body Book: Your Complete Guide to Relieving Aches and Pains at Home and on the Job (Paperback)
I have thoroughly read Dr. Homola's book and have found it to be an excellent consumer self-help guide. It's instructions, recommendations and reasoning are quite clear and flawless. Dr. Homola states that many "Aches and Pains" are self resolving and provides simple, convenient and rational means for the average person to understand and utilize. John Campo, DC, CICE, DABQUARP

2.0 out of 5 stars Almost useless, June 25, 2007
This review is from: The Chiropractor's Self-Help Back and Body Book: Your Complete Guide to Relieving Aches and Pains at Home and on the Job (Paperback)
I did not like this book. It gives only very basic information on how the spine works; the exercises are not properly described and exercise drawbacks are not pointed out. There is a section about nutrition that does not tell you anything really useful.
You might consider buying it only if you are a real novice to this matter.
