4.0 out of 5 stars this is cute and somewhat offbeat music, July 18, 2005
This review is from: Chobits 002 (Audio CD)
Actually, I bought this before the first chobits soundtrack, so I'll review this one. This music is really cute and if you have seen the show, I am sure you know how well it goes with the series. In this there is a mix of dramatic orchestra, cute bubbley tunes, and more lyrical songs like "Let Me Be With You". Which is the title theme of chobits and a really nice, addicting song that will get stuck in your head (in a groovy way). Some of the songs that serve as cheery background music for the show can get a little tedious, but I didn't hate any of them. You should buy this if you like chobits or maybe if you just want something to lighten your day.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Second Chii Album, October 17, 2008
This review is from: Chobits 002 (Audio CD)
I was wrong. I thought this Chobits Original Soundtrack 002 might only be gloomy music from the more serious second half of the popular anime series. But it's largely as "Happy-Go-Lucky" as the first! The 20 selections are:

1. Better

2. Let Me Be With You ( Chii Version )

3. Happy-Go-Lucky

4. Something Funny

5. Fast Forward

6. Cause and Effect

7. They Come and Go

8. On the Double

9. Touchy Subject

10. Play in the Early Afternoon ( Takako Version )

11. A Fly on the Wall

12. Company

13. You Never Know

14. A Piece of Cake

15. In a Brown Study

16. That Was Then

17. Spilling Salt

18. Midnight Voyage

19. Mermaid ( Short Version )

20. Love of Babble ( Preview )

The total running time is 53 minutes, compared to only about 35 minutes for the dozen tracks on the first album, making this a much better value; I'm at a loss as to why the uneven division of playtime between the two. Other than repeating "Let Me Be With You" and "Love of Babble" and including the popular Ningyo Hime or "Mermaid" aka "Mermaid Princess" - all of which are in the "Short Version" - these selections seem to be music less frequently used in the anime than in the first album. They are about evenly divided in moods and styles: jazz, J-pop, vocal, instrumental, etc.

In addition to Rie Tanaka performing songs as Chii, Ryoka Yuziki appears singing her character Takako in this version of "Play in the Early Afternoon". Also, whereas Tanaka-san "introduced" several selections on 001 in the tentative voice of Chii learning to speak; here she is joined by Tomokazu Sugita as Hideki in more mature-sounding conversation leading to musical backgrounds of some of their more intimate scenes.

Anyone who purchased and enjoys the first album should enjoy this one as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pizzicato Five Founding Member K-Taro Takanami Responsible For Chobits Soundtrack Music, August 10, 2006
This review is from: Chobits 002 (Audio CD)
A founding member of the critically acclaimed, now defunct Japanese band Pizzicato Five, godfathers of the internationally acclaimed Shibuya-kei movement, K-Taro Takanami (Keitarou Takanami) composed and arranged most of the music on the Chobits soundtrack. In addition, he wrote lyrics for, played instruments on, and sang on Chobits background music and songs. On the Chobits Original Soundtrack 002 CD, K-Taro Takanami composed and arranged all tracks except track 002 and track 019. Track 002 is the Chii version of the bouncy Chobits opening theme song "Let Me Be With You," sung by Rie Tanaka, Japanese voice actor (seiyuu) and singer for Chii (Chi) in Chobits, as well as for Lacus Clyne and Meer Campbell in Gundam Seed and Gundam Seed Destiny. Track 019 is "Mermaid ~Short Version~," the television edit version of the hauntingly beautiful second Chobits ending theme song "Ningyo Hime" ("Mermaid Princess"), also sung by Rie Tanaka.
