5.0 out of 5 stars Clamp does it again
Okay; I'll admit that certain parts of the art in Chobits shouldn't be exposed to children too young. I was 14 when I read Chobits, volume 1, however; and it didn't really make me want to go run naked through the streets, or whatever people seem to think exposure to nudity would do to young girls- however, it DID make me want to read volume 2.

It was a long and grueling...

1.0 out of 5 stars Chobits, Vol. 2
Parents: This is porno; not a comic book. Do not let your children order it. It states on the cover that it is suitable for older teens 16 +.

It was a long and grueling wait but as usual the results for Chobits volume 2 were well worth the effort. Okay, I'd like some of the backround writing to have been translated- but the more important parts, like 'grin' and 'copycat' were written nicely if one looked closely. And, you can't exactly get rid of the large letters in the backround- they portrayed a lot of emotion when Hideki would shout in anguish at Chi's actions. Or exposure to girls, in general, in either real life or in.. certain dreams. Naughty, naughty!

The storyline was interesting- it covered a lot about Shimbo and Ms. Shimizu's , leaving very little confusion about it but allowing for a few laughs as Hideki oversees things. It also shows Hideki having divided feelings, as he confides to Yumi that Chi's just a machine but then he goes back home and forgets there's a difference.

All in all, the storyline was rather deep for a comic which could be enjoyed by kids.. I'd say, twelve and up. Unless they were male, or somehow turned on by drawings of naked women. Hideki had a constant obsession with pornography, and Chi had no ideas about modesty, with a tendancy to play copycat to things she saw other people do. While there's less of Chi posing ... the girls in Hideki's porn, Chi DOES go to work in a peep show- however, she doesn't actually show too much; just keep it away from little children. Chi is constantly nonsexual and really very sweet- there is no fear that this is a form of hentai, as Chobits might show a bit of skin but overall it remains both innocent and charming.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yay!, December 7, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Chobits, Volume 2 (Paperback)
I loved the first one and the second is even better, sine the characters have been introduced and the story can really begin. I think that the way CLAMP is advancing the relationship between Chi and Hideki is awesome; please don't hesitate to buy this book because of some nudity. This series is so good it would be a shame! I think the rating is wrong- it should really be T for Teen, 13+ not OT 16+.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than the first, September 24, 2003
By
This review is from: Chobits, Volume 2 (Paperback)
When I started reading this series I wasn`t too fond of it at first. I liked the kind of dark science fiction element and it was generally entertaining, but I didn`t think the story was told all that well. The entire first volume gives you information that doesn`t seem very important at the time so the whole thing seems really uneventful.
However, I happened to buy the second one and read it out of boredom and found that the story really starts to get better at this point and the plot speeds up a lot. The first volume seems bland and empty in comparison to how intriguing the later volumes become. Eventually the storytelling gets a little deep, and very interesting questions are brought up about persocoms, the very human-like robot computers the story revolves around. Would it be right to create a machine that could make its own decisions? What makes people and machines different? If it`s okay to not consider the robots people because they don`t have real feelings, then what makes feelings real? And a question that Hideki wonders himself is, Why are the persocoms made to seem so human-like anyway? Which makes the reader wonder, If we had the technology to make things like persocoms, would we? It actually ends up being a very smart and deep story.
As well as making me think about a lot of things, this series is very entertaining because of its art. Clamp always delivers very impressively as far as art goes, and this series is no exception. I`m always amazed by Clamp`s creativity in character design and the clothes that the characters wear. (Then there`s when the characters are wearing nothing, which happens a lot in this series, as you should be warned. But even at those parts the art exceeds that of other manga.)
I would probably recommend this series to females, but I think some males could possibly enjoy it, too. If nudity would make you very uncomfortable you shouldn`t read this, even though most of the nudity happens in scenes that aren`t even necessarily sexual. Like all of Clamp`s manga that I`ve read this one is very addictive. After reading the first one you may not like it as much but after this one it gets a lot more interesting.

5.0 out of 5 stars We start to learn that things aren't what they seem, November 17, 2010
This review is from: Chobits, Volume 2 (Paperback)
My daughter checked out this manga from the library. Since I knew the anime series and read the first volume of the manga, I decided to read this volume since it was in the house.

In this volume, we learn there's a connection between Chi (Hideki's persocom) and Hideki's landlady, but Chi doesn't remember what it is. Chi also learns that she has a "sister," who she meets in this volume. We also learn that Chi needs to find "someone just for her" and that she will need to make a choice. Meanwhile, Hideki is asked out on a date by his co-worker, Yumi. Hideki also says he needs to find a second job to make ends meet, so Chi takes it upon herself to try to get a job to help Hideki. What Chi ends up finding could get her into trouble...

Overall, the anime was rather faithful to this manga volume. However, I do believe that there's a little more detail about Chi and her "sister" at this point in the manga in comparison to this point in the anime. There is a little bit of nudity in this book (primarily with Chi, the persocom). The manga says it's for readers 16+, and I would tend to agree with that assesment. If you enjoyed the Chobits anime series, or read the first volume of this manga and liked what you read, then I would recommend reading this manga volume.

I wrote this review after my daughter checked out a copy of this manga volume through the King County Library System.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gotta Admit This Series is Good, November 23, 2008
This review is from: Chobits, Volume 2 (Paperback)
The story line bothers me and I would never put this series in my classroom, but I have to say it is funny and enjoyable. Imagine an adolescent boy who discovers a robot in the form of a young woman who has little knowledge of anything. This is like My Fair Lady for the adolescent boy set. Still, it hits on some truth and some real fantasy young men have. Very cute. Written mainly by women.

when i'd finished the fist book i knew i'd have to expect alot out of clamp, again. but then again, with most anime manga's, you have to expect alot, and they actually give it. with this book i was a bit more lienient in letting my younger sis read it. i still didn't let her, but i was a bit wore willing. then again she is 14 and it is defenatly an older teens' book.once i started reading it, i couldn't stop. although when anyone starts a book like this you have to set aside a hour or so just to read it. but hey, it is so worth the bit of time needed to read it. out of all of the series i've read, which is quite alot, this has got to be me very faviorte series. then again, when i got about a quarter of the way through the first, i was hooked beond anyone's help. i recogment this entire series, not to mention all of Clamp's work, to anyone 16 or over and with a rather mature nature because of hentai-like qualities.

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST!!!, July 29, 2002
This review is from: Chobits, Volume 2 (Paperback)
If you're a fan of CLAMP's work like me, you'll love their latest series Chobits! Targeted toward a more mature audience adding humour with the main protagonist, Hideki! This is the second volume, so if you get this one, be sure to get the first one! A wonderful story and filled with suspense, especially the ending. ^_~
