So kawaii!,
By Holly Moffatt (New Brunswick, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Chobits, Volume 5 (Paperback)
Chobits is one of my favourite manga novels, and I'll tell you why- it's so darn cute, for starters! Sprinkle in some humour, mystery, sci-fi, unique characters, a highly unique plot that leaves you in suspense and demanding more and the amazing art of CLAMP, and you've got yourself a great manga novel!I'd heard many rumours that Chobits was yuri (girl/girl relationships) or pornographic, but I decided to check it out anyway, and boy am I glad I did, as it is neither! There is some sexual humour, swearing and nudity, but it is all rather mild. The rating is 16 and up, but I'd say the rating is a little strong. Suitable for ages 13 and over, in my opinion. Chii is adorable, Hideki is funny, Plum is sweet, and all the other characters are an intoxicating mix of sweetness, mystery, angst, regret, and much more. As you read on, the series becomes slightly darker as pasts are revealed, and the truth behind Chobits becomes closer to being uncovered. Unfortunately I've yet to be blessed with getting my hands on volumes 6 and 7 (8 isn't out yet), but trust me, I'm working on it. Chobits is addictive, once you read one, you need more, so read with caution! :P Can you tell I'm simply smitten with Chobits? Yeah, I'm obsessed. But believe me, it's a treat you must taste to fully appreciate. :) Don't miss out on this one!

Another excellent volume of Chobits!,
By "ekeindigo" (Basking Ridge, NJ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Chobits, Volume 5 (Paperback)
In my opinion, I think that the cover of this volume is the prettiest out of all the Chobits books so far :).Shimbo returns to help the search for the kidnapped persocom. Around the middle of the book, Chi makes all of the persocoms "space out" again, similar to in volume 2, and then starts acting a little strange herself (like a totally different person). We also find out who is creating the comic books about Hideki and Chi, although we don't know her name. As usual, there is a little mature content in here, but considerably less than some previous volumes. The only small drawback is that this volume goes by so fast, and has an ending that leaves us hanging... In volume 5, we find a bunch of unexpected loose ends and shocking secrets (including Chi's former name)- but you have to read this yourself to find out!

This series of manga is neither terribly original, nor intelligent, but I am drawn to them anyway. Cute illustrations, at least.

Volume 5 is just past the halfway point of the series. There are lots of on-going plot threads. Is Chi dangerous? Is Chi a chobits? What is a chobits? Are there other chobits? Who is writing the manga in the manga? Etc. etc.

Chobits is amazing,

Chobits was the first manga i became obsessed with. It has everything in it: love, humor, friendship, and well developed charactors whom you will adore. Chii is the main charactor and is so adorable that you will instantly fall in love with her. Hideki is the other main charactor who Chii lives with. They go through crazy times trying to discover more about Chii's past. It is such an adorable manga.

I've always loved CLAMP's work, and Chobits is no exception, especially in this book. It starts to get really really good (and kind of confusing). For instance, it surprised me when I found out who was writing the series that Chii's so obsessed with. I thought for sure it was Yumi, but...I can't wait for the next book! For now, though, this is a definite read! =D

Engaging, but no surprises,
By Colin Y. (Portland, Texas) - See all my reviews

This series is a very entertaining series. It's funny, and intriguing. I recommend you try to read all of it.I would imagine that reading the whole series all the way through is the only way to really enjoy it, because each volume changes its central theme. The first two volumes were mostly romantic comedy, but after that, they start to skew away from that and turn into kind of a mystery and drama. This volume is particularly humorless, centered almost completely on the mystery and resolve of Chi's disappearance, and the effect she has on other persocoms when she's touched in her spot. There's also the mystery of what happened between Yumi and Ueda. The thing is, you know this is all going to happen. The thing with Yumi started in Volume 4, so you can probably guess it will be explained at least a little bit in this volume. And as for what Chi does, you saw that already in Volume 2. This volume is bland in that it's basically a bridge. It wraps up what happenned last volume and sets up for the next one. No new revelations are made, and nothing happens really to make this volume special. When every single volume is finally released, the obvious thing we need to do is we read them all in order non-stop, so it seems like one big story and not a bunch of little stories at varying quality.

The 5th book:EVEN BETTER!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Chobits, Volume 5 (Paperback)
If you're into anything CLAMP, or Sci-Fi, then I strongly recommend this book! But, read the first 4 book before this one, okay?
If you watched "Carrie" (The movie) when you were little, then you could totally buy this! Even if your 10 (I'm almost 11, BTW) |
