Fun Korean manwha, December 29, 2005
This review is from: Chocolat Volume 1 (Chocolat (Yen)) (v. 1) (Paperback)
Chocolat is a great debut title from new publisher, Ice Kunion. (Chocolat was one of the 4 initial releases.) The artwork is very appealing and the story is, well, addictive! It's hard to find an entirely original story but this is at very least a fun new twist. I didn't feel like I had seen this all before while I was reading it. I know I can't wait to get Volume 2, so I suggest you try this title!

A Really Fun Read, January 10, 2007
This review is from: Chocolat Volume 1 (Chocolat (Yen)) (v. 1) (Paperback)
Chocolat was the first manhwa I read (I'm usually a manga person), and I'm glad I got to start off with such a great one! The Plot is simple: since she was late becoming a fan of the boy band DDL, Kum-ji was unable to join the fan club and is stuck being a 'normal' fan. So what does she do? Join the fan club of the up- and- coming band Yo-I instead. Now all she has to do is pretend to be a Yo-I fangirl while using her fanclub status(and the fact that her aunt works for Yo-I) to go to events that both Yo-I and DDL are at to try and get close to her favorite DDL member, Jin. But of course it isn't going to be that easy! Yo-I member E-soh finds out her secret and blackmails her into doing anything he says and then there's the other fanclub members jealous that she gets to be close to the band.
Chocolat was an overall great read. It was funny, cute, and holds a lot of promise for the future volumes. I also have to mention that the art was great as well. Also notable is that Ice Kunion (publisher) did a good job. I liked how the book was slightly larger and had a quality feel to it. I was also impressed with the author interviews in the back along with a preview of one of their other titles, Bring it on! If you're looking for something charming and satisfying to read, I highly recommend Chocolat. I can't wait to buy volume 2!!

At first I wasn't sure, September 20, 2008
This review is from: Chocolat Volume 1 (Chocolat (Yen)) (v. 1) (Paperback)
To be honest at first I wasn't sure if I would like this book. (not to mention I didn't know it was manwha when I picked it up off the shelf at the book store which in retrospect explains the unusual names with dashes in them like E-soh or Kum-ji)
The first few pages were hard to read because it just sort of threw you right into the story and I wasn't sure where it was going. (i've never idolized a band before maybe thats part of it) By the end though I was hooked and absolutely had to find out what would happen next after e-soh said something very unusual to kum-ji for his character up to that point.
I proceeded to read the 2nd book got even more entrenched in the story and it was getting late so I bought the 3rd book (I would have bought the rest of them had they all been there but there was no number 4! Ack!) and went home.
I finished reading book 3 and then had to log on to amazon and buy all the proceeding books after 3. As well as the first two books because I knew I would want to read them from the beginning again. *sigh* I'm a manga addict as it is and now seem to be falling into the manwha spectrum as well.
I like Chocolat because although you can probly find a similar girl has idol and trys to meet them story. Chocolat is certainly a new way of doing it and not to mention the characters say things I've never read one say in a manga before which makes me laugh.
I don't know why everyone in the book says Kum-ji is ugly though.. I dont think she looks that bad... she needs a better way to manage her hair but she isn't ugly... maybe koreans see it differently though. Ah well.
Anyway I liked it! It was good!
