4.0 out of 5 stars Good to read about familiar characters
I simply loved Chocolate Star so I was extremely excited when I learned there would be a sequel. However, I wish I had read the first novel again before I picked up this one. There was such a long gap between the two and it took me awhile to remember what happened between Topaz, Germaine, Gunther, and Sean. Chocolate Affair is well-written but I would definitely advise...

2.0 out of 5 stars Glitz and Glam and more Perfect People and Greeennn
If Sheila Copeland's character's or books could be described with two words they'd be "Green Perfection". These people are unrealistically wealthy and perfect. With minor family problems and hidden agendas. All of them are just so irresistable and why doesn't Sheila find another color other than keep mentioning how much Green the main character wears. We get it...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good to read about familiar characters, October 11, 2001

I simply loved Chocolate Star so I was extremely excited when I learned there would be a sequel. However, I wish I had read the first novel again before I picked up this one. There was such a long gap between the two and it took me awhile to remember what happened between Topaz, Germaine, Gunther, and Sean. Chocolate Affair is well-written but I would definitely advise reading Chocolate Star so that you will get more out of it. Judging by the ending, there will be a part three but I hope it comes soon.

4.0 out of 5 stars "As The World Turns In "A Chocolate Affair", December 11, 2007
Ms. Copeland stuns us with another piece of the saga surrounding drama queen, Topaz, her cousin, Nina, and Ms. Goody 2 Shoes, Keisha.

Keisha and her NBA star husband, Eric are moving due to his being traded to California. Upon their move, Keisha and Topaz's friendship is renewed and a blessing to both parties. Nina has embarked on a different journey as she tries to establish her own identity and is slowing being drawn into a relationship with her boyfriend, Jamil. Newbie to the clique is Jade, who married Eric's brother, Sean, and she fights the fit tooth and nail as she attempts to launch her career as an artist on her own merits.

The diva's struggle with life changing situations that continues to mount and escalate with the evolving of several secrets that could damage the unstable relationships.

Drama, drama, and more drama! Definitely a page turning best seller! Excellent job Ms. Copeland!

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Work!!!, July 9, 2003
This review is from: A Chocolate Affair (Paperback)
Sheila Copeland took a chance...and it worked! Her outstanding mix of themes and the weaving in God and Faith were a work of art. Her 'sista-girl' references were appropriate and especially entertaining. I completed the book in just two days.

As an author myself, I enjoyed reading a story I don't have the capacity, nor the experience to write. I have always been intrigued by the NBA and am a HUGE fan of the NY Knicks. Topaz is not unlike a woman I know VERY well; and frankly, I can't say I blame Ms. Copeland for writing her the way she did.

Overall, I give this book an enormous thumbs up! Ms. Copeland scored big with this one. Nice Sheila, Nice!

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining Journey...Sisterhood., April 10, 2002
This review is from: A Chocolate Affair (Paperback)
A Chocolate Affair, paperback, 232 pages...eye catching book cover design. I was told that this book was a sequel to Chocolate Star and that it was best to read Chocolate Star first...NOT TRUE. I have not read Chocolate Star and I don't feel that it diminished the effect of a Chocolate Affair at all. Overall I enjoyed the book. There were a few areas that consisted of idle, meaningless conversation which I assumed were fillers for the Author attempting to reach a certain word count. But the four female characters' glamourously dramatic lives kept me turning those pages. It somewhat reminded me of Waiting To Exhale...with ingredients like friendship, strength, support, love, sisterhood and fine men.

The title of the book was a bit deceiving, but ever so appropriate. I won't spoil the reader's journey by revealing any more on the title. The Author has developed some quality characters who definitely come to life on the pages and in the readers' mind. The characters are all rich, exciting and very attractive.

So get this book and meet:
KEISHA- Husband plays for the NBA. Will he cheat on her? She says she is not perfect...just forgiven. She puts the pieces together to a major top secret puzzle which must be leading to the Author's third novel.

TOPAZ- Singer living in L.A. Drinks so much Cristal that she not only should own stock in it, but should put a nipple on the bottle and forget the glass. Had several failed relationships before realizing that the first one should have been the keeper. Will she win him back?

NINA- Aspiring writer. Received engagement ring from man that she doesn't love. Will she marry him anyway? Will she get a book deal? This girl's life is full of suprises.

JADE- Artist and wife of a great NBA player. Gorgeous, but dealing with some serious issues such as low self-esteem. Will she sabotage her perfect life and marriage?

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Follow-On!, November 17, 2001

This review is from: A Chocolate Affair (Paperback)
Ms. Copeland got down! She really surprised me with her development of the characters from Chocolate Star. I was most amazed at Jade. Of course, Topaz, never surprises me. She is still crazy as ever. I REALLY enjoyed this book. It was easy and fun to read. I was so caught up that when I got to the end I was mad because I finished. OK Ms. Copeland, what's going to happen next? I am on the edge of my seat. All readers of Chocolate Star run out and get this book. New readers of Ms. Copeland, go get BOTH!! You will not be disappointed. The Delta Diva Readers, Norfolk, VA love you and support you Ms. Copeland!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Creeping and Sleeping!, November 8, 2001
This review is from: A Chocolate Affair (Paperback)
I enjoyed A Chocolate Affair the sequel to Chocolate Star and found it to be a nice, light, entertaining read that I read in one sitting. Topaz, Keisha, Jade and Nina are four friends-all vibrant, beautiful, talented and black-who find themselves swept up by destiny in the city of the stars and angels...Los Angeles, CA. Each lady had an interesting and exciting life and the reader was instantly drawn in trying to figure out what they were going to do next. But as usual Topaz would have the last word and the last dirt as folks start "creeping and sleeping" with each other. Uum...seems like Ms. Copeland has a sequel in the midst as the ending was left very open. I just hope that the next sequel will be out within a year so that I don't forget who the characters are...again. A Chocolate Affair is a good story about friendship between sister friends and is filled with drama, humor and wit.

I enjoyed reading this book and reading about what happen to the crew, Topaz, Keisha, Jade and Nina. I really enjoyed this book and the outcome of its characters. Topaz is still up to her tricks but then again she is being Topaz. I would love to find out if Jade evers finds out that Ninas' baby is her husband Sean, and if she does find out does she stay with him or leave the marriage... Good read

This was the first book I read of Ms Copeland and fell in love with it right away. I wish that this was a movie or a mini sitcom. Sheila Copeland did her thang!
