5.0 out of 5 stars Easily one of the best R&B albums of '99--in fact, the best.
Sisqo's album was good. Ginuwine's "100% Ginuwine" was nice. "Chocolate Mood" is superior. The lyrics flow so well, the beats are wonderful, Marc Nelson's voice is magnificent. Songs like "Compass Love", "In the Dark", "15 Minutes" and "Time to Pay" are wonderfully done--some feature nice guitar strummings...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected....
Being a fan of Marc's former group Az Yet and his debut single "15 minutes" I went out and purchased this album. This is definitely not what I expected for Marc Nelson's debut based on his previous work with Az Yet and the reviews this album recieved from critics. 15 Minutes is by far the best track on this whole cd. Most of the other tracks aren't worth...

Sisqo's album was good. Ginuwine's "100% Ginuwine" was nice. "Chocolate Mood" is superior. The lyrics flow so well, the beats are wonderful, Marc Nelson's voice is magnificent. Songs like "Compass Love", "In the Dark", "15 Minutes" and "Time to Pay" are wonderfully done--some feature nice guitar strummings in the background, soothing piano play, harmonious flute sounds. With the exception of "Lady in My Life", originality is also rampant in this album. Songs like "Too Friendly" which speaks of backstabbing friends (of the woman) that try to get at her man, but he refuses them. "15 Minutes", the first single is something I never thought anyone would make a song of love before work. But Nelson did, and was done excellent. Honestly, I had never heard of Marc Nelson until I saw "15 Minutes" on BET. The song was excellent and the album is well-crafted and every song can be listened to. This is one of, if not the best R&B album of 1999.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally!, November 10, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Chocolate Mood (Audio CD)
Chocolate Mood was well worth the wait. Marc Nelson turned out to be the Creative Genius I knew he would be. From the first time I saw him performing in Az Yet, I knew he would add exactly what was needed to the Music Industry, which is a spark of the old as well as a touch of the new. I really enjoyed the interludes "What's my name" (naughty) & "Brother". Marc adds that little something, something to those long, lonely nights.

MARC NELSON COMES OUT ON TOP ONCE AGAIN, I'VE BEEN A FAN SENSE THE ALBUM AZ YET, AND HE STOOD OUT THEN. I KNEW IT WAS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE HE WENT SOLO. MARC HAS THAT KIND OF VOICE THAT SHOULD BE HEARD ALONE. WAY TO GO WITH CHOCOLATE MOOD! THE VIDEO IS THE BOMB. I THINK EVERY-ONE WILL BE LOOKING FOR MARC TO DO A TOUR SOON. GOD HAS BLESS HIM WITH A SONG BIRD VOICE. THAT'S ALL I PLAY IN MY CAR. THANKS FOR THE MUSIC, MARC.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Chocolate" Lover Right Here..., August 13, 2000

Marc Nelson has a sensual, intoxicationg voice which he artfully displays in the entire album. "Chocolate Mood" is definitely not the type of album that you buy for only one or two good songs, because most, if not all the songs on this CD, are so well-done and full of Nelson's unique talent. Every song tells a different story, some are especially deep and fulfilling, yet classic enough that it can be easily related to. My favorite songs are "Time to Pay", about a man scorned by a love lost to another man, and "Too Friendly", about how a woman's "friends" can get a bit too friendly with the man in her life. I would suggest this album to anybody who loves a good love song with a twist, and also likes R&B more reminiscent of the early 90s (like Jodeci, Shai, and Az Yet...which Nelson was a part of.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Marc Nelson is one of the more underrated R&B artists, January 15, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Chocolate Mood (Audio CD)
Marc Nelson is tearing it up. He should be heading up the R&b charts, up there with groups like 112 and artists like Tyrese and Ginuwine. The song "15 Minutes" puts you in that sex mood, with grooving musics and breathtaking lyrics. So does the song "Choclate Mood" which also puts in a sort of a sex trance, thinking about your girl. the other songs on the Cd are also tight. So if all U men want to get in the mood with your girl, play this Cd for her and you're sure to feel the mood!

5.0 out of 5 stars As Dope as you can get, May 28, 2000

I loved the song "15 Minutes" until I heard "Enemies in Love." The guy has skills and is one of the best R&B albums out. The best compliment I can give him is that I can listen to the whole album (instead of listening to only "the good songs on the album" over and over). The fact of the matter is all of the songs are good (well, I do have a habit of skipping "Lady in my life", but that's it), and the only other albums like that are Blackstreets first one and Nas' "Illmatic." I was surprised I liked this album so much.

I'm Music Master and I speak nothing but the truth!

Most of the other tracks aren't worth listening to twice because the beats and lyrics are weak. Maybe next time Marc.

Az Yet, do you remember? Well I sure do because there album was very good especially with Marc Nelson's vocals.

I new this album was going to be tight, this album has tight interludes and the music is top class.

You can chill out to this album maybe if your with your girl one cold evening just put on chocolate mood and I guarantee you won't be dissapointed....

4.0 out of 5 stars Not terribly distinctive, but still quite well-done, November 24, 2006
This review is from: Chocolate Mood (Audio CD)
Like his more famous counterpart Joe, Marc Nelson (son of late R&B singer Phyllis Nelson), is a silky-smooth soul crooner who sings of love, understanding, compassion, and commitment. Although this album can't be too well-distinguished from period pieces by the likes of Joe, Ginuwine, and others, Nelson's smooth voice and (mostly) original instrumentation make this one well worth hearing at least once. Docked one star for use of samples on a couple of songs.
