Best Kept Secret!,
By Indigo Ramzy "indigoramzy" (Glenn Heights, TX USA) - See all my reviews

I ordered this CD by mistake and it was the best error that I've ever made! This CD is a cross between Jazz, Rap, R&B and Poetry. It's like Gil Scott-Herron meets Roy Ayers. I love every single cut from "Tha Payroll" to "U can't sing R song"--which is my personal favorite." What ever type of music you may be in the mood for, you'll find it within this one CD. I am a spearhead fan for life!

Take Time To Hear This Brother,
By Michael Gaines (Hampton VA) - See all my reviews

Deep meaningful poet with a pleasent Jazzy, Hip Hop beat. Picked up this CD as a disguard while in Saudi Arabia and almost disgaurded it, until I started to focus on the words. Franti has got something to say and we need to hear his heart. They should make it manditory listening in the Whitehouse maybe then we could get a desent break from the Ivory Tower. My favorite cuts: Food for tha Masses, Gas Gauge, Water Pistol. ps Franti Thanx for the OKC shout out; I was there and it was that way.

POW, a complete, fully realized hip-hop experience,
By Ian Erskine (ierskine@istar.ca) (Toronto, Canada) - See all my reviews

Get back, I wanna kiss myself. This album is a hip-hop staple. No dogs here, all mind bends and dividends. From R&B slow jams to fight the power anthems. Franti has really matured, he really understands the art of spoken word, and story telling. And it's all done with wicked, thick and heavy bass sounds that that, if they could, would make your ears water! Check out his website, it will shed some light on his ideas. Hasn't left the player for months!

Heavy Medicine,

"Home" blew me away and I picked up Supa Hwy a few years later in 1998. At the time I didn't think it was as good as Home, but I still liked it and it did cause awe in me. Looking back, if I was gonna compare, I'd say it's angrier, and STONIER, than Home. But in spite of the fact, or maybe because of the fact, that this whole album is in a ganga induced haze (or clarity), the clever melodic rhymes, good beats and deep groove are still more or less always present. Seems to be coming from a deeper place than the usual hip-hop fare - and it's not just rap anyway, although that's a major force, but some of the songs got this real authentic, slinky '70s soul sound. Looking back on it now, I'd say his second album Chocolate Supa Hwy was his second best, though I probably listen to this one more. Maybe Franti was more of a rocker at this time as opposed to political activist although you could argue Franti's lyrics have always been 'activist', just that in the first 2 albums politics (but not social commentary) still seemed to take back-seat to the party and the mood and the groove.. and maybe the ganga. This album's got a spiritual vibe; at the same time I'd say it's the darkest album in the Spearhead discography. Spearhead is still shootin from the hip in this second album; if you liked the first, this one should be a very pleasant discovery. I wouldn't say that for everything that came after this one, but Chocolate Supa HWY is still classic Spearhead.

michael is so dreamy ;)seriously, this is a great album - not as good as stay human, but still a great buy. this is a little uneven and some of the subject matter is disturbing, but it's definitely worth getting.

I have Home & Stay Human so I thought I would p/u CSH. If you enjoy the others you will like this one also. Franti doing it again - provocative rhymes over great beats.
