Good but not ideal for tempering chocolate,
By
This review is from: Chocolatiere Electric Chocolate Melting Pot (Kitchen)
This pot is very simple to use if you just want to melt chocolate for baking or for fondue. It even comes with tiny little fondue forks (although admittedly, longer, nicer looking forks would have been more useful). However, if you are making candy, this pot heats the chocolate too high for tempering chocolate properly (meaning the chocolate resolidifies at room temperature with a nice sheen). You can still use it, you just need to watch it pretty carefully and keep a thermometer handy. You can pseudo-temper by not allowing the chocolate to get hotter than 96 degees F. Chocolate will start melting around 92, just don't let it get much hotter, and it will resolidify at room temp. The lowest temp setting on this device gets it up to about 109. But as I say, if you watch and stir and turn off occassionally, you can still do it.02/08/11 edit: I've been using this device for two years, so would like to add a few notes regarding comments left by others. No, the device doesn't temper chocolate and it's not meant to. But you CAN get any chocolate (pre-tempered or not) to resolidify (a primary goal of tempering) by heating it up very carefully so it never gets very hot (as I said earlier, no hotter than about 96), stirring vigorously and frequently to aid in crystallization. The problem with this technique is that the chocolate is very thick at this temperature, so impossible to apply in a thin coat, if that's what you want. It also tends to bloom upon resolidification if you mix different chocolates or don't get it to just the perfect temp. All in all, pretty tricky for those kind of jobs. (Real tempering machines start at $400!) If you're a dedicated candy maker, this ain't the product for you. If you just want to melt chocolate chips, use the microwave. But this is nice for fondue or, if you're not picky about final appearance, coating things per my recommended instructions above. Have fun!!!

I am really amazed at how wonderful this product is. I like to bake, and alot of the recipes call for melted chocolate. I used to use the microwave to melt it, but often the chocolate would get too hot and burn through the microwaveable dish and smell up my home. I also tried using a double boiler and it just took too long and the chocolate got hard really fast when it was no longer on the stove top.Hence, I ordered the Chocolatiere Electric Chocolate Melting Pot. It came extremely quick (as does everything from amazon). The product is extemely compact and easy to store (big plus for me). I'm able to melt 10 ounces of chocolate in about 5 minutes. While that is longer then the microwave, the chocolate never comes out burnt and becomes so liquid and velvety. It's incredible beautiful to see. And the handle on the pot makes it easy to pour the chocolate into my recipe. The pot is very easy to clean and I don't burn my hands on it like the double boiler. In addition, the recipes comes out so much more tasty using the pot for melting chocolate vs. the microwave. While the main reason I purchased this was to melt chocolate for my recipes (mostly brownies) the product also came with cute accessories like fondue forks, chocolate molds (hearts, bears, squares, ovals, etc), a cooling rack and some other accessories, which add to the value of the product. Overall I'm extremely pleased with the product and it has been a huge help to me. I would buy it again!

Cute but small,

Cute for small batch of chocolate but needs to be a wee bit larger for actual candy making. Prefer to melt a whole bag of chips at once instead of a little at a time.

My daughter is a chocoholic and got the Hershey chocolate maker toy for Christmas a few years ago. It was a disappointment. The next year we did research and found this product. She still uses it. It is very easy to use for small or large projects. It is small, which makes storing it easy. It is easy to clean (she can do it herself). If you like to do any projects which involve melting/melted chocolate I recommend this.

I bought this to use with my cake pop maker to make dipping easer, OH boy do I love it. I reviewed several styles before choosing this one, and I am very happy with it, you can take the pot out and clean it in the sink, really makes for easier cleaning. The pot doesn't burn or anything even when left on for hours at a time. I love love love it!!

I've had this for about a year now. I can't figure out how to temper chocolate to save my life so I just melt my chocolate in this little contraption and it works well for all my needs. It melts quickly. It cleans up nicely. But when I'm dipping a couple dozen shortbread cookies or some cakeballs, I have to continually put more chocolate in but like I said, it melts quickly so it's not too bad. It would make a great gift. I've melted milk, dark & white chocolate in this as well as Wilton Candy Melts. The nicest thing about this is that the chocolate stays melted & warm as you work. I used to melt my chocolate in a Pyrex bowl in the microwave but it would not stay melted as I worked and I had to continually remelt it. This is definitely worth the price.

i originally bought this pot to use as both a fondue and chocolate melter. it doesnt work too well for fondue, unless if you're using just plain chocolate. as a chocolate melter however, its great, except if you're melting white chocolate.

My wife loves chocolate and loves to cook with it. This was a Christmas gift selected by our son. She loves it! Double boilers were cumbersome. This allows her to melt chocolate quickly, even on a whim, to dip strawberries or any other use. I would recommend this product if you love to work with or just want to work with chocolate.

A Kid's Review

A lot of the negative reviews for this product seem to be by people wanting to use this Chocolate Melting Pot to creative a full-scale replica of the moon.It won't. It's not professional grade. It's for at-home use. It's $25. We make cake balls often, and use this to melt our chocolate and get it ready for dipping. It melts the chocolate quickly with the high setting, and then keeps it melted with the low setting. Anyone who has played with chocolate knows smaller pieces melt faster. When we use almond bark, we'll cut up a couple pieces and let them melt for a second before throwing in full bars. We're impatient. I've been able to belt about four almond bark pieces with no problem. The pot is little, but who needs pounds and pounds of melted chocolate?? It's easy to store, because of it's small size. It doesn't melt the white vanilla almond bark very well, but I believe that's a fault of the almond bark, NOT the melter. I love it! The utensils and molds it comes with are kind of cheap and almost useless, but they're cute and you can work with them.

Wow, extremely fast delivery. The pot itself is very cute and just what I needed. I dip strawberries for wedding, grooms, and miscellaneous cakes I make, and this pot is fabulous. I also make lots of chocolate buckeyes and this is so handy.
