About the Author

Susan Lederer, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor and Chair in the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders at Adelphi University, NY. She is a state licensed and nationally certified speech-language pathologist with 25 years of professional experience in the areas of speech, language, and emergent literacy development and disorders. She is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, as well as the NYS and Long Island associations.

She and her Adelphi colleagues and students have been conducting and researching programs for late-talking toddlers and preschoolers at risk of reading failure. Efficacy and descriptions of these programs have been published in peer reviewed journals and presented nationally.

Susan Hendler Lederer, PhD, CCC (Dr.Suzy) is a professor of speech-language pathology at Adelphi University,Garden City,NY. She is the author of three picture books ( I Can Say That, I Can Do That, I Can Play That) designed to encourage young children to learn to talk and read, a children's yoga music CD (StoryBook Yoga), and a ready-to-read curriculum guide (PreRead). These products have been field tested and are currently in use at the university's Speech and Hearing Center and Early Learning Center. In addition she has published research in peer-reviewed journals and presented nationally on early language, literacy, pretend play, and yoga development and disorders.

I am a university professor specializing in child language development and disorders. I wrote I CAN SAY THAT (and I CAN DO THAT) to help children learn to talk. Children love the repetition and are motivated to "read along." For preschoolers, the book has built in early literacy skills to help your child begin to read. Buy it for your own child or as a gift. I am confident it will inspire children to learn to talk and read!!!
