5.0 out of 5 stars Tears, August 31, 2002
This review is from: Choice Summer (Nikki Sheridan Series #1) (Paperback)
Knowing that this book was endorsed by "Focus on the Family," I was apprehensive about reading it, fearing that it would give pat, spiritual, band-aid answers to real problems. But it doesn't. Thios book doesn't say, "Jesus is the answer, I'll pray for you, now go away." It follows the life of a young girl as she struggles with the decision of whether or not to get an abortion. For once, people are honest about the yelling and screaming coming from both sides of this issue. What I mean is, it's not just the "evil pro choice baby killers" who are preaching here, it's also the "backward pro lifers" who preach at Nikki. She's caught in the middle of these two opposing viewpoints, unsure of what to do. Meanwhile, her grandparents and her friend Jeff, some of the kindest, gentlest Christians, pray for Nikki, listen to her, and show her Christ's love through their actions. In the end, it's not yelling or preaching that will convince Nikki (or anyone) that abortion is wrong. It's hearing an unborn baby's heartbeat, and finding that it really is a PERSON, another life, growing inside a woman. Not just "pregnancy tissue" or a "fetus" that can be removed, but a real human being, created in the image of God. And this book shows that without being preachy. Halleleujah! I found myself crying at the end of this book, glad that I'd read it and eager to read the rest of the series! And the other books in the series are just as good. Overall, I highly reccomend these books.

This review is from: Choice Summer (Nikki Sheridan Series #1) (Paperback)
"Choice Summer" was a captivating story of one girl's incredibly hard experience when she becomes pregnant at only 16. This book kept me interested and revealed the facts about abortion, as well as the right choice to make. I look forward to reading the other books in this series! If you haven't yet read this book, I highly recommend it. Also try the Sierra Jensen series and Chrisy Miller, other stories of teen girls from Focus on the Family.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book about real life issues, July 29, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Choice Summer (Nikki Sheridan Series #1) (Paperback)
"Choice Summer" is a wonderful book about real life issues. When 16 year old Nikki Sheridan finds out she is pregnant, she faces one of the most important decisions of her life. This story tells of her emotional, spiritual, and physical "ups and downs"; and in the end, the outcome of her choice...giving birth to her baby or having an abortion. When reading about Nikki I too experienced happiness and heartache. I recommend this book to any teenager.

This book was sooo good!. It's about a 16 year old girl who finds out she's pregnet. While she's visting her grandparents, she can't decide what to do. Her Grandmother has a stroke and soon every one finds out. Nikki then turns to her Grandpa and God for help. This book showed what it's like for a teenager to be pregnet and how hard it can be make decisions. I enjoyed it very much!

4.0 out of 5 stars Life changing..., December 24, 2008
By
This review is from: Choice Summer (Nikki Sheridan Series #1) (Paperback)
Nikki Sheridan is pregnant. She knows she has to do something and do it fast before anyone finds out about her situation. It helps that she spends every summer with her grandparents. That way when she does have the abortion, it'll be done quietly and in a town where she's a stranger. Yet things don't go according to plan. After getting sick at a dinner where family and friends are present, Nikki leads everyone to believe that she's having a bout with the flu. Her childhood friend thinks there is something more to the whole flu explanation, but he doesn't confront her on it. Then when her grandma has a stroke and her cold-hearted parents come swooping in, her parents discover her secret. They - her mother, more specifically- treats her harshly and demands that she has an abortion. At this point Nikki no longer feels right about doing that. Even though her grandma is still comatose, Nikki talks to her about everything.
Mr. and Mrs. Sheridan go as far as bringing their daughter to a doctor who is willing to perform the abortion. But when the nurses confuses the patients' files, a tech comes in and does an ultrasound on the baby instead, and Nikki is able to hear the baby's heartbeat. From that point on, Nikki knows an abortion is wrong, so when she comes out of the doctor's office, she allows her parents to believe that the procedure went according to plan.
By the time Mr. and Mrs. Sheridan figure out the truth, the grandma has woken up and spill the beans. Nikki's parents weren't doing what was best for their daughter, they were only concerned about their own well being and how it would reflect on Mr. Sheridan's career. In the end, Nikki opts to give her baby up for adoption, which leads to her parents officially kicking her out of their house. But she is not without a home. Her loving grandparents welcome her with open arms.
"Choice Summer" may have been predictable, but it was well written and well researched. The saddest part of the story was the heartlessness of Mr. and Mrs. Sheridan. Growing up with such loving parents, it's hard for me to imagine that there are parents out there who do turn their backs on their children when they are most in need of love and support.

5.0 out of 5 stars Every girl needs to read this book, October 8, 2005
This review is from: Choice Summer (Nikki Sheridan Series #1) (Paperback)
I was 16 when I read this book. I remember thinking that it would be good but it couldn't be as good as other books that I had read. Iwas wrong! If you havent read this book then you need to. It made me realize how bad killing your baby before its born can be. I also realized that boys can be total jerks and that I needed to really be careful. This book can tell your daugher everything that she ever needs to know. And if you read it with her it will be something that you will never forget.

My 14 year old daughter read this book and she couldn't put it down! She hates to read and this series has opened her eyes to the wonderful world of reading. In addition, it really spoke to her about how one night could change her whole life and the real difficulties facing teenage pregnancy.
