September 15, 1999
When the three pregnant women meet at a health clinic they have no idea that their lives will be interwoven for months to come. As Treva begins a psychological study of the clinic's patients, these three women find that they have much in common -- he same deep feelings for their families and the men they love. When Pepper falls for a wealthy, older man who thin trophy rather than a partner, Treva listens. When Treva's health confines her to a bed as she strives to bring her unborn child safely into the world, Pepper holds her hand. When Deirdre's lover reappears and she falls for him again the older women offer advice and support.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Reed's debut novel centers around three women who must choose whether to carry an unexpected pregnancy to term. African-American Treva Connor, the emotional backbone of the plot, has been warned that her health, and that of her baby, could be in danger if she decides to remain pregnant. Deirdre Samms is an extremely focused young woman who finds herself pregnant as a result of a one-night stand just before she is to start law school. Pepper Nolan is an insecure owner of a lingerie boutique who fears that, as a single mother, men won't want her. The women come together in the abortion clinic where Treva works, and with each other, confront their problems. Reed presents a realistic and detailed picture of abortion in the 1990s, from those who face physical danger by providing abortions to those who go through the experience. Although the writing veers toward the melodramatic, the content is strong enough to make this a commendable read. (Oct.)

This was such a compelling book. The three women were so different and yet they had a common bond.It is a fast read that will hold your interest. And it is really a non-judgemental book on abortion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolute Must Read, February 13, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Choices (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is excellent. It really makes you think about the really hard choice that women have to make if they have an unwanted pregnancy. As Reed put it in her book "probably the hardest choice a woman will have to make." I read this book in one night, I couldn't put it down. It is a real page turner. All three of the women in this book, have different circumstances as to why they are making the choice they are; as are women today. This book is an absolute must read, it really shows you their side. This is an absolute must read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tears and laughter, October 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Choices (Mass Market Paperback)
This book really got to me. I had an abortion at age 16 and I relived it all, I laughed and cried and thought about the choices I made. A book like this one is good because it isn't an angry abortion book but is about real people and real life feelings. I am 24 now and have gone on with my life, making better choices I hope! But I will always remember the characters in this book.
