Absolute Must Read, February 13, 2000

This review is from: Choices (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is excellent. It really makes you think about the really hard choice that women have to make if they have an unwanted pregnancy. As Reed put it in her book "probably the hardest choice a woman will have to make." I read this book in one night, I couldn't put it down. It is a real page turner. All three of the women in this book, have different circumstances as to why they are making the choice they are; as are women today. This book is an absolute must read, it really shows you their side. This is an absolute must read!

Tears and laughter, October 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Choices (Mass Market Paperback)
This book really got to me. I had an abortion at age 16 and I relived it all, I laughed and cried and thought about the choices I made. A book like this one is good because it isn't an angry abortion book but is about real people and real life feelings. I am 24 now and have gone on with my life, making better choices I hope! But I will always remember the characters in this book.

Loved it, October 3, 1999

This review is from: Choices (Mass Market Paperback)
Faced with a devestating and painful decision, each of these brave women looks into her heart and makes a choice that affects the rest of her life. Reed carries them on into their future and the men who love them, all so vividly drawn that they become real to the reader, like beloved sisters and friends. You will laugh with them and weep for them, but you will not forget them.

Touching...heartfelt...tearjerker....splendid.., September 14, 1999

I enjoyed this well written, thought provoking, novel. The characters felt real..someone we know..maybe ourselves. I have been in the position to have to CHOOSE and the decision was the right one for me. Abigail Reed did a wonderful job in developing these characters and the events that developed from the choices they made...it renewed my spirit of forgiveness and true love...that is rarily shown with such open honesty as in this novel. Thank you Abigail Reed for your contribution.

Loved it, laughed and cried!, August 25, 1999

This review is from: Choices (Mass Market Paperback)
From the minute that Diedre meets Mitch at a party and makes love to him, to the wonderful, loving relationship of Treva and Wade, who celebrate "anniversaries" at the drop of a hat, I was totally hooked on this warm book. The author covers some very tough issues... should women "choose," and what happens to the ramifications of those choices? Life is a lot more complex than just deciding yes or no about having a baby. And yet, the joy, warmth, kindness and humor just reverberates through CHOICES, and there were places where I just had to cry. I loved these women, I loved their courage and their strength, and the ending of the book... well, I don't want to reveal it but it's such a tear-jerker I read it four times and STILL found tears in my eyes. Abigail Reed, keep on writing books that touch the heart-- I'm going to buy all of them and devour them the same day.

A wonderful story and educational read, August 22, 2005
This review is from: Choices (Mass Market Paperback)
I read this book when I was just beginning to turn into one of those hormone wrecked teens. Maybe that's why it made such a huge impact on me. I found myself wondering what I would do in the same circumstances and sympathizing with the characters. The author does not say which option is right or wrong, she doesn't preach, but merely makes the reader understand that no matter what the character chose - mistake or not - it was a very difficult and important choice. She does not make the mistake of a happily ever after ending either, but acknowledges the many obstacles ahead for all of them. In the end, it is the characters' determination to make it work out that give the book a hopeful ending.
It was my first look into abortion. Afterwards, I was still interested, and for several school papers I chose this topic to explore.
(Several spoilers beneath)
The stories of Diedre and Treva hit harder than Pepper's. Perhaps it's because of the fact that Pepper has already had an abortion before. I know that if I had one, I would never want to repeat the experience (especially since the author describes the painful process).
The best and most heart-wrenching part of the book is when Mitch - the man who got Diedre pregnant, later goes to an abortion clinic to try and understand why and how it felt for Diedre to get an abortion on her own. It is with this new understanding that he meets Diedre with that makes me believe that they might have a second chance.
After all these years, I can still remember the character's names and believe me, that is saying something. I read so many that usually they blur together! (Well, maybe that's my bad memory's fault too...) Anyone could learn from this book, regardless of race, gender, or age. I would definitely have my daughter read this book.

Hard Choices, April 21, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Choices (Mass Market Paperback)
This was a great book! All of the women in this book had to make a hard decision, abortion or no? Pepper and Dierdre chose abortion, but Treva did not.I think Treva's story is the most couragous and touching. She had a high blood pressure problem and she was willing to risk it for her baby.
