Brand-new Christmas music from the Tabernacle Choir!,
By The Music Man "If I Cannot Fly, Let Me Sing" (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sing Choirs of Angels (Audio CD)
This brand-new recording of Christmas music from the Tabernacle Choir is marvellous. Recorded on their own "Mormon Tabernacle Choir" label, this is the choir's first recording of seasonal music, and it surpasses any previous holiday release that the choir has made.
Using the music of both John Rutter and the arrangements of Mack Wilberg, "Sing Choirs of Angels" enjoys a wonderful flow from track to track: from the propulsive "Fum, Fum, Fum" to the sublimely meditative "What Sweeter Music"; from the majestic "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" to a brand new music and lyric setting of the gentle "Still, Still, Still" there is something here for everyone. Listening to this recording brings a warm holiday spirit into my heart and home. Recorded in the Tabernacle at Temple Square in Salt Lake City, and using the versatile Orchestra at Temple Square, the choir and orchestra sound luminous and warm; these new recordings truly are miles above anything the Choir has done before - the polish and feeling that they bring to these new recordings are stunning. The booklet that accompanies the CD is beautiful as well, with full color photographs of traditional Christmas symbols, full lyrics, track by track commentary, and a glossary of what each Christmas symbol means. This is a quality gift to give to friends and neighbors to help usher in the Christmas season. Unreservedly recommended.

I have about 40 Christmas CDs, and this one is in my top 2 or 3 favorites. The orchestra compliments the choir so beautifully and the offerings here are varied and interesting. 5 stars!

If there is a better choir to listen to during the Christmas holiday season, I don't know their name. For at least 60 years the sounds of Christmas have always been something I look forward to, and this DVD doesn't disappoint my expectations. Only Scrooge could be dissatisfied by this one.

A fantastic album! A great variety of songs... many that you can sing along to. We literally had this in the c.d. player the whole Christmas season. You can't beat MoTab!

Introduction to the great John Rutter,

Took a while to track this one down after hearing a track on the radio. It is great to know that someone is composing outstanding new Christmas Carols. Many people may be somewhat familiar with John Rutter's Candlelight Carol, but this album has a few others including Angel's Carol which is incredible. The choir is outstanding. The recording is excellent. Rutter's composition of Herrick's "What sweeter music" is great. Not to be overlooked is Still, still, still. For those who love Christmas Carols this is a must have.

Beautiful,

I was listening to a mix of Christmas music from my album collection when "Still, Still, Still" came on. I actually jumped on to Amazon after it was over just to post this review. There is Christmas music you listen to in the stores and when you're playing games at a Christmas party. And then there is Christmas music you listen to as you humbly ponder the birth and life of Jesus Christ. This is the latter. I feel such peace as I listen, it puts me in a prayerful, grateful mood. If you're looking for something a bit more gentle and reflective of the true spirit of the season, I highly recommend this CD.

This is a wonderful collection of familiar and new Christmas carols. Standing out to me were "Still, Still, Still", " What Sweeter Music", "Angel's Carol" and to finish it off a great arrangement of "Oh, Come, All Ye Faithful". The choir and orchestra sounded superb.

I can't say enough about MoTAB(Mormon Tabernacle Choir), they are simply the best when it comes to Christmas Carols. I have all the Christmas albums under their 'new' label but this one has some very out there carols, which is good. My fav is 'The Virgin Mary had a Baby Boy', Caribbean and complete with steel drums!
