Choko King is the fifth full length recording from the amazing Jon Andreas Hĺtun and his band. But, unlike the previous releases, this album sounds like a musical experiment or a collection of outtakes instead of a full new album. Following in Frank Zappa's footsteps (think of Zappa's Civilization, Part III), Jono el Grande seems to have stepped off the accessible wagon, onto a "for collector's only" path here. The singing (more like yelling) is especially grating, the horns seem totally ad lib, and my favorite part is missing - the orchestration. They include an interesting, but vague, concept story here that I could not understand, but then again, I am not Nordic.
So make sure you become thoroughly a fan by listening to the earlier works before undertaking this one.
